Thermometer in AutoDim Mirror

Ok, so I apologize if anyone has covered this. I used the search feature (both on this site and on Google but didn't find anything specifically on this.

I have a '99 Limited with the autodim and compass in the mirror. I realized a few days ago that when starting the Runner, when all the dummy lights fire, the digital display shows like a thermometer for a few seconds as well.

This started me searching. I know that the Limited has the auto climate-control panel with the thermometer based in that, but I really got used to my old '96 Exploder (I know, I know) with the thermometer in the mirror.

Is there a way to enable the thermometer in the mirror permanently? I'm guessing it was disabled for 4Runners with the auto climate-control panels so the panel could display?

(also, while we're at it: STUPID design on Toyota's part with the passenger sun-visor. I have the mirror base tilted as far to the driver's side as it would go, but the passenger sun-visor can't open without bumping the mirror. Mechanically sound, sure, but geez. How'd that pass the basic consumer inspection?)

Not that I am aware of. I believe it is a spec GM compass. Mine came apart last year due to the heat but has been good to go since gluing it back together with a little bit of Gorilla Glue.

You have an aftermarket mirror in there, that's why it bumps the visor.rewire the mirror to constant power rather than switched?

Huh that's odd. I did not think that it was aftermarket. It looks like most everyone else's that I've seen. Says 'compass' and 'auto'. So Toyota used a GM mirror then? I know they had some other dealings in the past. Maybe GM used the TEMP part.

I get maybe that the OP replaced the windshield and thus glued the mirror a bit off.

I'm stupid; I said wrong. Mine says Compass/Mirror, not Compass/Auto.
Sorry about that.

Ok so it requires a Temp sensor. I had skimmed through NissanH's thread, but I guess I missed that somehow.
