Thin sleeping platform?

Ok so I end up sitting in my car for hours on end some times. Rain or just watching movies. All the sleeping platforms seem to be at least 1ft high and I cant imagine they can sit up in those.

i spent 6 hours in the runner this weekend because of rain.

I thinking about making a mini/short sleeping platform. maybe 6" high that can hold jumper cables, tow ropes and all my random stuff that's in the tough boxes now

I want to be able to still sit up and play on my laptop but create a storage place for all the random crap I have stowed around when sleeping in my car.

Anyone go this route?

If you have the fab skills or know someone that does you can go with this low profile build.

You are right about not being able to sit up with higher profile sleepers, but the trade off with the lower profile is obviously a thinner sleeping platform due to the wheel wells. Since we are a couple with two dogs, we needed the wider surface to fit all of us when we were actually sleeping. (There are pics of ours on the build thread link on my signature line) Couple of notes, we were going to carpet ours like I see a lot of others do, but moisture retention and keeping it clean were issues for us. I just put several coats of Verathane on ours and it worked great. Also, make sure whatever design you use can be tied down. No one needs a giant, heavy loose object banging around in an accident or rollover. Our design does leave plenty of room to comfortably lay back upwards at an angle for reading and such.

not worth it imo. Id build a rack in the back above the floor. That way you can stretch your legs out when you sleep but have room to sit up.
