Okay..... I have a 2003 4Runner Limited 4WD with the 4.7 V-8. My front differential is messed up. The Toyota place I took it to is charging $2,600.00 for part and labor..... They said it is an 8-hour job..... I spoke with another dealership and they said it is only a 4-hour job. And at $115 per hour shop rate times 8 hours, that is $920.00...... Does this mean that the differential cost $1,680.00? I may be crazy, but this seems ridiculous......
Please tell me if this is correct or not.

Thanks

smells like that first dealership is giving you a cold hard shaft

Not sure what the labor time is on this, but you should be looking at ~$1500 for the front assembly. Dealer is definitely not going to mess with taking apart your setup to repair unless they have a gear specialist in house, and even if they do the labor spent on tear down and rebuild would be better spent on a new assembly. Book time may be 8 hours for this while someone proficient may only take 4.

Good Luck!

Book time on removing and replacing the front differential is 3.1 Hours. The price of the part will vary from region to region so take peoples estimates on the part price as a grain of salt.

3.1 - 4hrs sounds about right. $1500-ish for the entire differential unit ready to go sounds accurate as well. Not sure where they are getting the extra 4hours though...
