Looked at this 4Runner today and I liked everything about it. Has all service records dating back to 2002 when purchased. Only downside is the high mileage at 185K. The only question I have is water was leaking from the exhaust pipe after driving the car. What causes this? I have never seen a car do this before. The seller/dealer said it was from water being condensed as it exited through the cold exhaust pipe. I'm not buying that answer as is been 100+ for the last 2 weeks. I Googled and the answers I got said the same thing. To me it seems like there has to be another cause. So, what causes water to leak from the exhaust after driving? Thanks, for any help and reading my pre-purchase posts.

Whoa, nice find!!! Clean title and known history with no red flags?

In response to the exhaust question:
Water is a product of the combustion in your engine (hydrogen in the gasoline combines with oxygen in the air during combustion, etc...) so water does sometimes drip from exhaust pipes. Especially after short trips, and I assume your test drive was relatively short. Even in 100+ degree days (I've seen the dripping happen here in Florida) the pipes under the car that are in the shade MAY not quite heat up enough on short drives to keep the water from condensing. If it drips after EVERY trip in hot weather, long or short, you may have a problem, but like I said, I've seen it in Florida in 90-100 degree weather.

I could be wrong about the cause, but its what I've heard and it seems logical to me. That plus seeing it before in hot weather, I wouldn't be worried. If you still aren't comfortable then ask if you can take it to a mechanic to have it checked out. It'd be worth spending a little $$$ to get an '02 like that for so cheap!The mileage isn't bad as long as maintenance has been routine, timing belt done, etc.

Dealer is right, its normal to drip the water. I bought mine at 180k miles thinking the same as you, little worried of the high mileage. I still am driving it today and it just rolled 210k miles. I have replaced the brakes and that is it. Everything else is still OEM toyota original parts. I do want to swap the radiator and do an external trans cooler.
 
I actually looked at that one as well. I would pick that up in a heartbeat if I were you. My dad was seriously considering it, but wanted to stay away from white since I have a white one. I wouldn't worry about the miles either, especially since its well documented. I couldn't find anything wrong with it that would have kept me from buying.

What part of Indiana are you from?

I'm going to bring my friend who is a mechanic with me to look at it again and see if he can see anything wrong with it. The belts look brand new and everything works. I just want to be 100% sure. I could be joining the 4Runner community very soon.

I live in Indy. But my moms side of the family live in Louisville (Okalona) all the way down to Sheperdsville, so I'm down there quite often.

This would def. be a good pickup if you end up getting it.
 
i love the white ones!

why is it badged SR5 with limited flares and heated seats/leather and awd/4x4 switch etc? Did things change with the lade model ones?

I didn't think you could get a center locking diff either?

Doesn't have limited flares, those are SR5 flares. You can also get an SR5 with leather, I have two of them. And all 4WD 4Rumners 2001 & 2002 have the multimode transfer case. This truck is legit.
 
Water from the tail pipe is a sign of complete combustion. It's a good thing.
Unless it smells like antifreeze.

Small world. I live in Okolona and have family in Shepherdsville too.

So, basically I found the jackpot. I'm pretty excited about it. Going tomorrow to look at it again and try and work out a deal.
 
Nice T4R! Good price. I paid $8,500 for my 2001 SR5 Sport 4x4 with 150,000 miles last May. They seem to sell pretty good in this area of the country. Good luck!
