Think she is totaled?

So last night I was having a few drinks with some friends and came out to my Runner to find it being pulled up on the wrecker. A drunk driver hit my parked car on the drivers side rear. After inspection it appears to have a bent axle, broken rim, leaking XREAS, and some significant damage to the body ie door, hatch, fenders. I hope there isn't damage to the frame but i couldn't tell as it was a little dark. :redbrick:

When speaking with the cop he thought they would total it. What do you guys think after looking at these pictures? Do you think there is enough damage to total it out?

Any recommendations to look out for if they do end up fixing it?

****, that's a fair amount of damage... The axle may have taken a fair amount of the force and spared the frame, but the body that bolts on may be pretty screwed up...

Sad thing is I've only got to enjoy the FJ springs & spacer for 3 weeks. What ya gonna do though?
 
And i dont think you need to total it trust me...if you approach your insurance company probably they might total it, try to find some body shop where they can fix it cheap and then you have to pay the money out of your pocket.

I would estimate the damage not more than 3-4k.

i have a salvage rebuilt 4runner which was hit on the driver side door,
i bought the totaled one and got it fixed and using it.

Pm me if you have plans totaling it i will give you ideas.
 
They actually got the drunk driver of the Mercedes Benz and he does have insurance...

I just have that bad feeling about it and I feel like they will total it.

I've actually been trying to talk myself in the 5th gen limited in the event I have to get another car but just can't come to terms with it as I love the 4th Gens so much!
 
First off, beat the living sh*t out of the bonehead who did that. Second, it doesnt look total-worthy, especially on an 08. For sure, you'll need a new axle, but, if it bent the drive shaft and caused tranny problems, that might be a different story.

Do whatever you can to get it fixed. Insurance companies will never give you full value that its worth, plus everything that was put into it (maintenance, extras, radio, wheels etc.). If you can, just work on getting it fixed mechanical-wise. Then, if someone rear-ends you, they pick up the tab for the door and quarterpanel. Good luck with what happens, but dont let them total it if at all possible. You'll never get the money you deserve for it.
 
In a lot of ways I would be hoping it gets totaled. Damage like that can be fixed but often it just means expensive problems down the road that you won't be covered for.

If it is totaled, you are looking for the cost to replace it which should be way better than you will get on trade in leaving you free to bargain down purchase price alone with a dealer on another 4th Gen or a new 5th Gen.
 
I think I would sleep better if they just total it out. I'd rather not have to deal with any problems down the road resulting from this accident.
 
I dont believe in suing people at all unless there is a good reason. But if they caught this guy, he needs to PAY. try to find a way..
 
I'm no expert, but I think it will be totaled. Suspect the frame is tweeked, rear axle gone, tire, wheel bent, quarter panel gone, door skin(s), possible fuel tank, rear suspension gone, exhaust(?), paint job. Sorry for your loss.....
Make sure you have receipts for the upgrades you done.
 
I hope for you they total it. Damage like that could hurt your resale value if some one pulls a carfax and see's it had that kind of damage done.
 
There is always more damage than what pics reveal. I say it's gonna be a close call. I am gonna guesstimate the damage around 18-20k. The decision will also depend on your insurance/agent. I am glad you are ok, Report back to us with what happens.
 
i suggest if you get it done your self in a body shop , it would never show up on a carfax , unless and untill you approach insurance or take it to a toyota show room, So trust me dont make that mistake.

Or what you can do is incase you want to total it
options are

1) ask how much will the insurance company pay you for that car.
2) if they pay you some good money , what happens is they will get the car off you hands and put a tag saying a salvage vehicle.
3)Then its your turn you have to ask them you want to buy that car from them.
4) They will give you the quote.

Instead you can call me i know people who want to buy the car as is.

I even posted a link with the pics in 2007 4th gen.
 
if you can get some better pics (daylight) i might be able to write a dummy appraisal(im an appraiser) to give you a better idea on what you might be looking at. mind you it will just be a visible damage quote. from my experience and the possibility of no frame damage i do not think it would total.
 
@inscarguy is right.
always get quotes from different people before you do something,its a lot of money you are talking about so take some opinions.
