Think twice before buying NFab bars

Just thought I would share my experience. First these are great looking bars but if you live anywhere where there is road salt or snow on the ground. Look at getting something else or coating the bars yourself when you get them. Mine weren't even a year old and it wasn't that bad of a winter here but they started rusting pretty bad. There is a warranty on the finish however you have to pay for shipping back. Mine ran me $75 to ship back which is almost a third of the price of these. I never took these off road either.

that's a damn, dirty shame...but it was a hell of a winter here in NY, so I'm not completely surprised either.

One would expect they would hold up much better than that though...

Mine are hooding up remarkably well, just a tiny bit of surface rust from nicks, with zero maintenance.

Certainly they look better better than the frame and undercarriage on my 4Runner which is becoming a rusted mess despite yearly maintenance (sanding/rust converter).:deadhorse:

Gotta love it up in this part of the country. My sliders(not nfab) looked the same after this winter. I just had them powder coated again. But every time they hit the rocks, the rust starts to appear so then I just touch them up with black paint. It's a vicious circle.

Have them bedlined, way tougher than powder coat (and more expensive) it holds up better.

I dont know that I would blame NFAB for that.... metal rusts.... powedercoating is crap. I would have blasted them and lineXed them:thumb:

I wasn't expecting them to be this bad at 8 months old. I wash my 4runner religiously in then winter because I hate rust and like to have nice things. But to spend $300 plus on steps and then have to recoat them 6 months in is a bit much. Now I can blame nfab so the wife oks sliders. Lesson learned

All I have to say is that anyone blaming this on your winter is wrong. I had 2 different sets of these on my Tacoma and both started doing the same thing. I live in Florida, never went through the salt and live far enough away that it would not have made a difference anyways. The finish is garbage and the company has some serious customer service issues. Good luck OP, I hope this works out for you. I kept my receipts and was able to swap 1 set out after a few days talking with MULTIPLE customer service reps... oh and that was when they would answer and call you back.

I think it is safe to say I am through with that company all together.:flipoff:

Their customer service does lack. A friend has boards on his truck a different brand. His rusted within a year the company sent him new boards he didn't have to pay anything or ship his back. The company I bought the nfabs from and suppose to give me a full refund but they have to have nfab inspect my steps. We will see if they try to play some games.

High impact area for road debris... which is exactly why I have mud guards. I'd keep your eye on the lower panels of your doors too for chips in the paint.

same thing happen to me. great look nice construction but junk paint / power coat. no answer email. gave up. wire brushed mine and painted with rust proof paint. guess Ill have to do that every year or so. wouldn't buy again.

I know the sliders will need up keep.. but I will coat them before they go on and also like the function of them and should have got them to begin with. Apparently the stock mud guards don't protect that much.

I had the same issue, at least nfab answered you. They ignored my emails and phone calls.

Last year I got a set of RRO Supersliders, they went through this whole winter with not so much as a speck of corrosion. Even where I scraped some of the paint off on one side it still barely has any rust. That's with snow and the ocean air!

Husky Mud a guards are what I have and they protect quite well. Before I put them on I already had a couple of nicks in the doors so I could only imagine what winter would do.

We have had them on the 2014 TE for three years and they are holding pretty strong.

Have you tried POR-15? It has had a lot of good reviews on its durability! I found it on Amazon but I'm pretty sure automotive places would have it.

I always cringe when I see these mounted on trucks. Aren't you guys afraid of the damage these will cause to your bodywork the second they get hung up on a rock ?

I'm considering the line-x option before I run into trouble. I got a quote for $375. Is that reasonable? It's more than I paid for the bars, even before the $40 rebate!
