On a Lexus, and its < 100k? I wouldn't worry personally.

I have a 2002 Ford Excursion 7
3L Diesel on 35's. Gets 20 mpg at 70mph. Holds 8. I have a first generation 4 runner also 4 when the wife is not with us. Family of 6 so the Excursion is great. Put a cold air intake from k&n and a bully dog programmer in it to get the 20mpg. That's it. I had a lexus before but I don't think it can hang with the 7.3l 4x4 that gets 20mpg. Get 15 city. Just my thoughts. Amazingly my excursion gets better fuel mileage than my 1st Gen 4runner. Motor is twice the size!

I have a 2016 TEP and my wife has a 2010 GX 460. It's a loaded base model that I bought 2 years old with 19K miles. It has been a fantastic vehicle. Still looks new at 75k miles. The base does not have the air suspension, which I did not want, but has semi analine heated cooled seat, folding mirrors, adaptive headlights, KDSS, etc. The V8 is butter smooth, and it is extremely quiet. I put some Michelin LTX MS2 's on it, way better than the stock Duelers. You won't worry about her in a GX. I wasted money buying a Lexus extended Guarantee - don't bother. Have you noticed any road noise from the tires in the back? We test drove the 460 today and with LTX MS2s, I noticed some noise in the back. Best I can figure, it either the tires, or the bearings are bad.
I just got a 2010 GX 460 recently and no regrets. I'm been searching 07-09 4Runner but couldn't find one locally that did not have rust. I got lucky with this one, carfax showed it was a FL car until 2016. Had all service records from Lexus. I was a little worried when I noticed that the last owner had declined services that was recommended. I think that why the owner traded in. When I went to test drive the gx the salesman showed me the $2k invoice to get the gx ready to sell. Invoice inclued: 4 brand new tires, rear brake pads, front shock, oil change.
It's got 114k miles and still run smooth with the v8. I can't believe how much 4th gen 4Runner was costing when I was looking for one. You can get a gx for same prices as 4th runners at same mileage. It was more than i want to spend but no regrets so far.

ok, i love my 2014 SR5 T4R...but when i started on this journey, i was originally in the market for a GX because i did want some lux in my SUV. I shy'd away from the GX, both 470 and 460, because i started reading stuff about how the air suspension started to give owners issues once the mileage picked up. and since i keep my cars for forever, i didnt want that problem in the next 7-8 years.
If i had known this, i would have been looking for a base, surely.
and with this info, i surely will be steering my wife towards a nicely kept used GX460 BASE model in the next year...

GO FOR IT! If you plan to lift, I would look for a base so that you don't have to deal with airbags under the rear.
FWIW, I went from a gen 5 4R limited to a GX 469 a couple months ago. I like it. I mean, it's smooth, luxurious and definitely "nicer" than the 4R.
But, I miss the 4R. I'm looking to replace our second car and i found myself wandering back to the Toyota website and skimming through preowned 4R ads...
The GX drinks about the same volume of gas, but of course it prefers the premium stuff. The leather is softer (semi aniline in our version), but I'm already worried it won't be as durable or wear as well as "cheaper stuff" we had in the 4 R
The fact that the GX has the same crappy ICE interface doesn't make me feel any better about the price premium. Heck, I prefer the manual latches for the 3rd row seats in the 4R over the power seats in the GX.
In short, buyer beware. I'm not disappointed in the GX, but I probably would have been just as happy with a base GX...and happier with another loaded 4R

All, thanks for the feedback. We've been looking around and if I can sell my wife's RAV4, I think we will end up buying a 2013 Premium 460 with 77K on it that I came across.
I'm going to leave it stock and since its going to be my wife's car, I'm erring on the side of comfort vs ruggedness. I'm going to end up as one of "those" people with a 4Runner and a 460, on second thought, I'm very ok with that.

Maybe it the steering wheel trying ito assault me when I turn the ignition key is what scares me. But once I overcome my robophobia I really do appreciate
what a great ride it is. And I had thought my 04 TR4 Sport Ed with the same drive train and a functional xreas suspension was about as good as it gets. Only downside I see is the 18%+j\- fuel hit (1 mpg less on the GX in simalar conditions in our case) . I little extra wind resistance and wieght I guess.

I pulled the trigger and bought a 2013 Titanium Silver GX460 Premium with 78K on the clock. Despite having 78K miles on it, the interior is flawless and there are only a couple minor scratches on the outside. The ride is fantastic as are all the amenities, I really want to take it out on a trail.
I'm now the guy that has both a Limited 4Runner and a GX460 - I have a hard time picking which one to drive when I have choice.
