Thinking about Changing out the Radio head for something with Blue Tooth and Android

The CarJoying is not bad. I've had it since April.

I tried Android Auto on it for a minute and I found it Android Auto lacking.

I change the Launcher; Their native launcher is meh. I use Nova.

I bought a boost mobile hotspot to use google maps / waze with it. Around town just letting it connect to all the comcast open wifi hotspots.

I wish it had more complex EQ; i just use the EQ on google play.

I'm sure there will be something bigger and better soon, but for the price I can't complain.

I've said it a few times in other threads and I'll say it again...I love my Joying branded Android HU. You get the full benefit of being Android OS without the safety limits of the Android Auto.

I also use the Nova launcher as you can make it look however you want (icon alignment, widgets for all your apps, etc.) and it's pretty fast. I have the Torque Pro app as well and find it useful at times but really a novelty feature for me.

As for better SQ without a separate DSP, can't recommend Viper4Android app enough. It made a huge difference in mine in both SQ and volume once it's been tweaked.

Install was insanely simple and I retained all my swc and looks completely OEM (toyota 200x100mm sizing). Best of all, it was only $290.

Its worth noting that I didnt have to mess with the JBL setup (std audio) and have the older KitKat 4.4 and 1 GB version. YMMV

not trying to scare you, but i prefer quality unit vs a no name one. you might be happy now, but when it starts to give you trouble, your going to thank yourself on investing something better, less work, and hassle on uninstalling and reinstalling. also sound will be alot better. let us know how you are enjoying the new unit tho.

riceandpho: I do understand your point and that was what I really intended to do was to go Kenwood or Pioneer something but I wanted the torque app display availability was on of my top priorities for keeping touch on my primary engine data when towing. Everything else on either system was fluff. I did find another way to do that but with a little less than what I did spend but with everything that Android OS system offers and the real people reports that started back in 2015 and with the company support I have already received prior to purchase and with the cost of above half the cost of the Kenwood / Pioneer offer and with the research I did do that the Android auto doesn't work with the Torque App that I use I went for it.

If it doesn't work out as reported by others for the past three years I'll turn it into a garage entertainment system. Spend at least twice the amount I did spent and won't have the display on the head unit that I would like.

I hope to report a success we'll see in a few weeks! You would think that the Big Audio dogs would be embracing the Android thing but right now they really aren't. Guess they are a bunch of Apple people.:wow2:

As I stated before I pulled the trigger on the Joying JY-TM123N2 Android head unit on 09/21 and it arrived early on 09/25 free shipping.

Along with their head unit I order their DVR front view camera. And ordered a rear camera from Amazon.

All arrived in great condition. So I decided to bench test everything before I did the installation. So far so good! I haven't changed anything at this point. The system as is sounds very good and youtube videos play flawlessly. Wi-fi was easy to connect to both my systems. DVR camera installed as directed. The Amazon camera works well. Downloaded a movie on a flash drive and it replayed it flawlessly with very good A&V. Picks up local radio stations with good sound. I did load Vudu app but can't seem to get a login screen to move on so I'm not sure what to do about that.

First impressions: So far I'm happy with it.

I just changed out my head unit last month and upgraded to the Pioneer AVH-5200NEX and have been very happy with it.

What dash kit did you use? I have a Metra and Scosche and neither fit correctly.

I ordered a kdc-501 from crutchfield on sale for just around 100. Paid another 30 to have them crimp the wires for me. The deck came with the Metro trim at no additional cost.

It's a single din, but I couldn't justify the cost of a double din with smart phone compatibility. Especially given the fact that I have a Note8 with a big ole screen.

I am an Android user and everything I have is in google. To be able to have everything sync'd and connected sounds great to me. The reviews I have seen have been good on this. Anyone have one?

I opted to keep it as simple as possible… I just went with an affordable Pioneer media receiver which does not have CD. I literally only use it for Bluetooth audio streaming and phone calls.

For the price, about $100, seems like a solid option, but I also wasn't trying to get too fancy with a screen based unit. I needed the other space for a VHF radio.

I also use the Pioneer to AUX for VHF audio.
