Third Row Seating In A Sport Model

Hello all!! Has anyone ever attempted to add the third row seats to a Sport model. I know it's an option in the SR5 and the Limited, but how hard would it be to add it to a Sport model. Is the hardware available to do it? Can it even be done? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

In short, no. I don't think it can even be done like an actual three row seat 4Runners unless a lot of modifications are involved because it looks like the floor pan of the two row seat models are different by the second seat. Three row seat 4Runners, the second row folds forward differently. The seat backs drop and the entire seat flips forward towards the front seats, much like the GX470's. Three row seat 4Runners also have a recline feature on the second row seats, whereas our two row 4Runner second rows the seat backs are fixed in one angle.

IMO, I think converting a two row a three row isn't possible.

The only remote possibility is if the provisions for the third row are present behind carpet and panels on a two row 4Runner. You might be able to swap out the rear cargo area panels to the three seat model and maybe swap the seats in, but access to them will be difficult because of how the second row folds. My friend was able to put in Escalade third row seating in his Tahoe Z71 (which isn't available with the third row) by getting the mounting bars and cutting out the carpet.

That's what I was afraid of. It isn't that big of a deal...hell, I don't need any more headaches in life, and it sounds like adding the third row would be just that...another headache. Thanks for clarifying.

I have a 2004 Toyota 4Runner with 3rd row to swap

I have a Silver 2004 SR5 4WD V6 4Runner with the 3rd row seats. I would love to swap for a 2 row version.

I took the 3rd row out, but I don't like the 2nd row seats as they don't fold down flat in the 3rd row model.

I would like to install the 2 row seats into my 4Runner or swap with someone who needs the 3rd row.

My 4Runner has 62K on it and is in excellent condition (per the most recent checkup). I would be willing to pay the FMV difference.

Has anyone ever installed the 2 row seats into a 3rd row 4Runner? I want the seat to lay flat so I can camp in my car.

Thank you for pointing that out. I was fully aware of the fact the OP is asking about putting in third row seats in his 4Runner. : There are more differences than just the cargo area.

If you read my previous post (not even in its entirety), you will see the pictures I have linked for the OP is pointing out the differences of the second row seats on a 4Runner that is equipped with third row seats are different than a two row seat 4Runner.

Would you be kind enough to post some interior pictures of your second row and cargo area? Preferably with the second row in different positions (upright and folded), so in case anyone is curious about the swap can see if it can be done. I believe the floor pan of your 4Runner is different than a two row seat 4Runner. But I'm curious to see the differences.

Just want to add that the convex mirrors on the D pillars are replaced by seat belt stirrups for the 3rd row model. The belt reel is located behind the molding and are anchored near those cubby compartments.

Comparing my SR5 and Sport, the modification would indeed be extensive (if not prohibitively expensive). The cargo floor on the 3rd row has heavy duty anchor bars as do the side hinges where the seats actually pivot up wards. Then you have the issue of the aforementioned seat belts.
