I would probably offer $9500. I guess it depends on the market where you are. I got my 2001 for around $9200 but it was in TX and had 133K on it. It really depends on how bad you want it and what you will use it for.
 
I'll bite ... in my experience, a lot depends on the region. This looks like a cherry ... cosmetically well maintained, features that an enthusiast would be looking for (e-Locker), etc. Probably has also been well maintained mechanically, althought he apparently doesn't have full service records. Autocheck indicates no previous accidents. There are still questions that I would want answered, but all in all it looks like a very nice 4Runner.

As for what I would pay for it ... I don't know what the values look like in SoCal (although I would imagine they would be higher than normal), but here in the SouthEast, I've seen similar (and some that didn't look quite that nice) 4Runners at dealerships selling for $10-12K. Personally, I'd want to be on the low end of that range for this vehicle ...
 
That vehicle was on Craigslist L.A. for a while listed at $15k. That's why it hasn't sold yet. There's a big difference in knowing what you have and being outright delusional. I sure hope the OP isn't the actual owner trolling. I personally don't think it's worth more than 10k, but reality is that it's worth whatever someone's willing to pay to get a hold of one with those options. Still can't see it going for more than $12k.
 
I'm thinking not more than 8k, personally. Probably less, things like Silverstar bulbs and Michelin tires make me think the owner is a little more interested in name brand than actual performance.

$8k and only because it's Cali, that's like $7k around me and that's still too high, that owner wants what an "enthusiast" will pay for it, but that is not what it is worth. Remember a manual is not worth as much as an automatic, no matter what the owner says.

John, you've mentioned this in a couple threads. Where are you getting this from? Manuals are going to bring a premium over an otherwise identical automatic just simply because there are so many fewer of them.

Yep. If you're buying a brand new vehicle, the option of an auto will usually ruin a premium, but when it comes to the world of used it's all about what someone wants more. Whenever I've looked for used cars in the past, I would always tell the seller that I was looking for the opposite of whatever they had for sale to help with the negotiations.
 
I remember back 20 years ago when we would sell 5.0 Mustangs at my dad's place. Couldn't keep them on the lot, but everyone wanted a manual. We had this black on black '91 GT, really low miles, clean as hell but an auto. It sat for about 4 months before we finally wholesaled it. But, if we went to Ford to buy a new one you were paying an extra for the auto.
 
thanks for the input... i'm not the owner trolling. i talked with the seller, he wants 13.5.

from what i have gathered the socal region is on the high end of asking prices and i'm willing to pay the premium for a nice rig. i've seen some on dealer sites in this region for 10-13k that are nice examples but not 5 spd.

Don't be afraid to go outside the area. It might be worth it to fly out somewhere and drive one back.

We are enthusiasts, I see cheap manuals all the time, but i don't ever post them up because they are from the rust belt. A normal person buys automatics in this country, that's why there are significantly more than manuals, but just because half the people on this forum wants a manual doesnt mean they are worth more, it's means you are willing to spend more for a manual, but I know a normal person would pay more to have an automatic whether used or no, and they would not settle for a manual unless it was much cheaper. And the normal person is the majority of the car purchasing public and we are the minority. Just because you are willing to pay $1k more because it's stick doesn't mean it's worth that, but if the seller is holding out for someone who is willing to then he has a right to do that. I could list my truck for $10k but that doesn't mean it's worth that, I listed mine for $5k with 150k on it 2 years ago, and got no interest at all.
 
I've never seen a lower or higher priced 4Runner based on what tranny it has;it's just if you find the right buyer at the right time but I have noticed less and less low mileage examples of 3rd gens for sale period and I think more and more 3rd gen owners aren't selling.
