Went to drop my Landcruiser off at Toyota to get airbag recall work done.
A tech pulls up in the 4Runner below. I ask who it belongs to. He said an employee just bought it for $500. A customer traded it and got $500 for it.

It was flawless on the inside, no rust, 4wd, and no issues in engine or drivetrain.



I'm a 3rd gen owner btw.

And I'm just sitting here waiting for said employee to register and start a thread asking about symptoms of a blown head gasket.
 
That thing is in pristine condition for $500.

I would have loved to be the beneficiary of that come-up.

I wouldn't bet any money on that... plenty of people well-off enough, or even busy enough to just go to a dealer and want to ease, service, and simplicity of "knocking it out in one trip".

Sometimes those people also take really good care of their stuff.

Sometimes they really don't know how nice they stuff might really be.

One mans trash is another mans treasure.

Not always. I got my 87 Supra from a dealership where it was traded in and I assume they gave the previous owner pretty much nothing for it. She was the original owner, pretty old, and her husband had passed away a few years before. She didn't drive it very much or probably drive at all after he passed and her daughter was buying a new Camry or some other appliance so her mom threw the Supra in as a trade.

The car is in immaculate shape and has never had a serious issue in the 6 years I've owned it.

Also those salesmen are pretty good at taking advantage of you, especially if you don't know what you have or what you are doing.
 
it's probably a 3.slow/auto combo with 300k miles

or any number of other issues.

sure it looks clean, but that is only the surface.
