I went to Thompson Toyota last night to look at a 97' 4Runner SR5 that they have on eBay. I ask the salesman on the phone a few questions about the car and ask, what would it take to buy it tonight and have you guys end the eBay auction. He gives me the number.
I go up, test drive it, look it over, it is exactly as he described it. While looking it over the handle for the tailgate breaks. I had it open, he closed it, went to open it back up and the handle was just flapping around. I tell him I'll take it if they fix the handle. He says no, as is. Went back and forth for a little bit, tell him I'll get back to him this morning.
On my ride home I call the guy to thank him for his time and to tell him that I was hoping we could've got it done last night so that he could've had one more car out for the month. (It was the last day of the month and me also being in sales wanted to help him out.)
We leave it at me telling him I'll call him in the morning, just want to research what is involved in me fixing the hatch handle myself.
Call him back at 8:30 this morning, tell him I'll take it. I'm going to catch a 9:45 train back up there and I would see him by 10:30. Tells me "I can't sell it to you now. There are 97 people watching the eBay auction and they want to wait until the auction is over."
Really? That's how you run a business? You tell me a price, you tell me you'll end the auction if I give you that price, I tell you I'm willing to pay that price and then you pull the rug out from under me? Very classy...
