I have them now on my 16 TE in 285/70r17. A good tire thus far . Haven't seen snow yet but good highway manners, a bit heavy, even in P rated tires and great in all the rain we have had here in the DC area.

There are design variances. For the sake of discussion if we focus on 255....
254.mm = 1 inch
a 10" wide rim/wheel will give a 255/40/17 tire the widest contact patch without it being "stretched or cupped" as the sidewalls are squared. An 8" wide rim will cause the side walls to bulge, contact patch will be somewhere between 8" and 10", but definitely not 10". If you went to a 11" wide wheel, the 255mm tire will be stretched and cupped, total width contacting the road will be < 255mm

My own scattered experiences over the years.....
Cooper ST Maxx - really happy with so far. Great tire. A tiny bit noisy on-road but comparable to other off-road focused AT tires. So far, similar to the KO2's but a little better off-road (in my experience).
KO2's - Hard to go wrong with. Great all around tire. They were solid on the road. They did well enough in snow. Fair in mud. My only beef was that they seemed to attract road debris. (I also have crap luck)
Toyo Open Country AT (Gen I) - Good on dry road. Ok in snow. Terrible on wet pavement. I had tons of fun doing donuts with these for giggles, but for reliable wet weather traction.. I was not happy with these.
Pro Comp MT2 - Off-road, Tarzan. On-road. Jane. Honestly, great tire for an off-road focused vehicle. If you're logging significant on-road miles, I really recommend looking at AT's.
BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM2 - I really liked these and compare them to the KO2's. They're a more aggressive tread for off-road, but the design lent itself well to on-road travel. I did a 6000 mile trip in a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon up through Canada and was happy with these. Road noise was evident, similar to the Cooper ST Maxx, but keep in mind, I had these in a noisy-ass Wrangler.
If I had to recommend any....
KO2's, ST Maxx, or the KM2's, with on-road to off-road focus in that order. I liked all 3.
I would not recommend the Toyo's, but the Gen II might be better.
I would not recommend the Pro Comp unless it's a dedicated off-road rig and your highway travel is limited to transit to/from.

Absolutely love your setup. Just bought a 2017. I know this is your old setup with the 255/75 which is what I'll be going with. So I was wondering when you had it sitting like this did you have any type of lift on it with bilsteins or anything? Would be much appreciated with a reply, thanks man.
