thoughts on Bazooka BTA10200 sub

i dont have exp with the same tube but a similar experience. i did an amped tube for a friend and it sounded ok. a few months later he decided he neede more bass. i convinced him to get an amp and a box and he thanked me for it.
i guess an amped tube is not a bad place to start (install ease) but it really limits your upgrade possibility. unless you are really set on the bazooka i woul recommend considering buying an amp + sub combo. if you buy the right amp you could start with 1 sub and if needed change to 2 if you felt the need.

I have had the bazooka tube in my 85 tacoma when i was 16 it was awesome...UNTILL i sat in another vechile with a sub/box/amp setup that spent the same amount of money and uses pretty much the same amount of space and it was even better. So for an SUV that tube will sound decent but my guess is, is that if you get it sooner or later you will want more. Thats just how it goes. Let us know what it sounds like if you go with it

Bazookas tend to have a boomy sound, suitable for rock/pop/country, not so suitable for jazz or classical music. The driver itself has a foam surround, which I don't care for. I've ripped a 6.5" driver to pieces by being a bit (OK, alot) overzealous with the volume.
Having said that, I've purchased 2 unamplified tubes, a 6.5" and an 8". They do provide excellent bang for the buck. They are extremely efficient, so if you are using an external amplifier you can use a smaller amp than normal.
If you're sold on the amplfied version, I'd also consider the 8" instead of the 10". You probably won't notice any difference. I believe I've seen some posts recommending the Infinity Basslink 10". I've never heard one of those so I don't know how it would stack up to the Bazooka.

i think ill stick to the 8"... but im open to even more suggestions. i like that its small, amplified (i have a 4 channel amp, so i need that) and will probably last just about as long as i need it to (like 2 years).
i dont need high quality sound for classical or jazz, i need even tones for rock, occaisonal rap and alt country.
plus, theres a remote you can buy for 20 bucks so you can control the bass from the drivers seat, and not have to stop, go back, fiddle, sit down, test it, and repeat.

FYI (in case you don't already know):
Non-fading sub out RCA's from almost all HU's now allow you to control the bass in your HU, or with your remote control - so you don't have to worry about finding a place to mount a potentiometer up front to control the bass when you have a amp and sub box.
'just tellin' ya because I don't want you to base your decision on that remote control that the tube has. You can have that control with an amp and sub box too.
For what it's worth: I had a 6.5" Bazooka amped 80w tube and it was awesome for the size and price of the thing. BUT, I had to go for more bass and lower bass and eventually upgraded to an 8" then a 10" in sealed boxes. (80% rock/20%hiphop)
