Thoughts on my 4Runner purchase.

So I have been having buyer’s remorse off and on for the last few months, it starts with me reading post on the 4th gen’s. Things like they have led tail lights, project head lights, auto close tailgate’s etc. The consumer reports stuff that says’s how much better the last gen 4Runner was ect. (yes I know CR reviews are bias and they can't review their own ***.)

When I was shopping for my next vehicle I originally wanted a truck, and I have always loved the way the Tacoma’s look. I then start thinking man I should have got a Taco instead of the 4Runner. I then spend countless hours looking at other’s 4th Gen’s and Taco’s and start checking for used 4th gen’s and Tacoma’s.

It then gradually evolves into spending about an hour one Sunday (don’t want to be pestered by sales people) wandering the lot of my local Toyota dealer, peering into the windows of any 4th gen or Taco they have on the lot. It ends with me getting back in my 5th Gen and I appreciate it even more each time this happens. I guess what I’m trying to say is I that love this truck!

As a long time 4Runner owner now (just selling my 11 year old 3rd generation), I love my 5th generation all that much more. I actually held off a bit because I wasn't crazy about the styling on the 4th generation. No offense to anyone who has one, but when I saw the new body styling, I had to have one! I love it............

Yep, I had been thinking about a new T4R since November,10, my 2000 was running just fine, but I had that new-bug fever, so I took my time, looked around and finally ended up with a Magnetic Gray Metallic, Solid Black LB22, interior, Limited, got the slide out cargo deck, instead of 3rd row seating, and NAV. It's loaded, and nice. :cheers: You made a good choice! :bravo:

Speaking of tail/headlights... Are there no any aftermarket / OEM replacements to make the headlight a projector, and get the LED in there?

Will I really have to retrofit both.. ?

hey everyone,i have been driving my 5th gen 4runner now for 3weeks,and i'm just really enjoying it,its a very very nice truck,the only thing is that i'm getting 13.0km/100km in the city which is 18.0mpg do you think thats good,and also when gas prices go up there is no way i will stop driving this 4runner, i will do the speed limit thats all,i just feel very SAFE in this 4RUNNER

Love my 4R too. I have however, on occasion experienced buyer's remorse too-especially when I get guilt tripped into not doing my bit for the environment! But all other SUVs that I had looked into had the same gas mileage limits with the exception of the Highlander Hybrid that does 28mpg city and highway.
With the gas prices going up, I have just been extra careful of keeping the eco light on and have averaged about 20mpg mostly city driving.

I have a 02 Tacoma 4x4, trd, manual with low miles and is holding its value pretty darn good (can sell it for 14k, dealers in my area wont negotiate off their 18k asking price, pretty crazy). I am in love with the TE since the truck is not so comfortable and I do not need a bed anymore but I think I will wait for a model refresh and then sell the Tacoma and get a TE. Giving up a perfect 1st gen Tacoma 4x4, TRD is tough since these 1st gens are bullet proof.

No.

Yes. The headlights have to be taken apart for the projector retrofit, LEDs could be installed at the same time.

I think it's normal, mine shows 13.2 l/100km in the city, but it's mostly short trips. I'm planning a couple of long trips in May, going to reset the counter, hopefully fuel consumption wil be better.

the latter question was more of a rhetorical statement.... I know i'd need to retrofit stuff..

Just came back from a trip, the trip was 1000km two ways (about 600 miles I think). On my way there (purely higway) I got 10.1 l/100km (23.2 mpg). Vehicle was heavy loaded with a bike on hitch mount. when I came back home after little driving in the town and I think over 50 km on non-maintaned/logging roads computer showed 10.5 l/100km (22.4 mpg).

iam on the 3rd week as well iam at 17mpg now keeping the eco light on all the time, can't wate to brake this thing in. the left is on now and i bet it will go down when i put the 32''bfg on monday, but going from a 2008 scion xb to this thing it is sooooo much nicer

I just did a trip of 350 each way, one way in strong head wind and got 20.5 mpg

My TE is totally stock

The ride was great
