Thoughts on this 2001 4Runner?

the most important part is the inside of the frame good ? i know about the rust i live and Maine theres no way to get around that around here just make sure it is all solid
 
Regional prices may vary; but that 4R would be at $5k in Texas. The upcoming maintenance is a biggie in my opinion. I would also question how long that battery is going to hold up. then there are the tires that look like they will need to be replaced in around 10k miles at least. So if you consider the upcoming maintenance cost that 4R is considerably more expensive.


Truth in advertising - I just went through this with my 2001 4R. I spent almost $2k doing much neglected maintenance to it. I did tires, supercharger rebuild, all fluids changed, transmission cooler, replaced radiator, belts, and fixed a few issues that had been ignored for a bit. Today I believe it was worth it; but it did make my first month with it much more expensive than I had planned/budgeted for the purchase.

Not sure where you are looking but I can not find that. Everything I find here is $7,000+ minimum and they have over 150k miles. In all seriousness, if you are finding these for under 150k miles and $5k, show me....cause I want one :pray:
 
When I bought my 1997 4x4 Limited supercharged 4Runner, the seller had it listed for $7000 and I got him down on the price to $5000 because he couldn't prove when the timing belt was changed and the 4Runner had a little over 264k miles on the odometer.
 
At minimum the battery looks neglected, and that's easy to maintain. Remove the battery and wash it and the terminals with some water and baking soda, then put it back. Easy.
If seller couldn't do that, doubt if he did the harder to do maintenance.
 
Very honestly, run a CarFax on it IF ONLY to verify the mileage.
We all know that these things last forever, but if you're looking for 'low' mileage, 300k ain't it.
I just bought a 1999 a couple weeks ago, and it was the SIXTH 4runner/T100 I seriously looked at. All the others said to have 120k-130k original miles, and were clean and test drove fine. When running the CarFax, though, all of them had at least 250k on the odometer. All them were rolled back. Not bad mileage if it's been maintained well, but in my opinion, that's just another 120k+ miles for it to be neglected.
 
You need pics of the rear control arm mount. That's where it fails. Rust in the places in your pictures don't turn a truck into garbage like a rusted rear control arm does

Craigslist turned up quite a few results for me when I was shopping a few months ago. I found my 2001 4R on CL.

But here are a few that are decent options...

2-Owner 2002 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4 w/Sunroof & Clean CARFAX - $5990 (Fort Worth)

97 Toyota 4runner limited 4wd - $4500 (garland)
 
Why buy east coast, when you could easily do a fly n' drive for a southwest truck with zero rust? Alternatively, you could just buy a one way flight, and move yourself out of Jersey ... Both are pretty appealing options.
