Thoughts on this runner: Good deal or Keep looking?

Hey Everyone,
I've been on the hunt for a 4th Gen for a couple months now. Im in no hurry to buy but I think I found one I like:

2003 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4WD V8 Brook Park, Ohio | Autos Direct Online

I got the seller down to 12,450 + 277 processing and 761 tax, so about 13.5k out the door.

Looks to be in good condition.
no service records but seemingly clean carfax.

Question is, Is this a good deal or will I be paying too much for something I can get cheaper with lower miles, etc?

I figured I'd come to those who know - thoughts? opinions?

Bought my 04 Limited for $13,800 with 100k on the odometer and with full service records from a single owner who kept it is near perfect shape. Just make sure that it has had the timing belt and water pump change done since its at 90k. Otherwise you'll need to do it right away. Good luck with the purchase!
 
Looked pretty good to me. The carfax checked out and mileage is on the low end of the spectrum. As UteRunner said, make sure the maintenance is up to date.
 
I asked the dealer about the records and since they bought it at auction they dont have any. So my first assumption is that it hasn't been done, and the tires may also need to be replaced very soon - though that will just give me a good excuse to through a lift on and get some bigger beefier tires :-D

Thanks for the input, I'll be talking with the Dealer again tomorrow and hopefully it will be mine shortly!

Try entering the VIN on toyota owners website. If the rig was serviced at any toyota dealership, there will be a record.

I think the price is reasonable and the rig looks good. Good luck.
 
I would try to haggle down a little more. I just bought my 03 Limited with 112k (non-4x4, V6) 3 months ago for $9,800 out the door. Dealer was asking $13,800 and I was trading in a brand new highlander. He said he'd rather take more off the T4R than give me more on the trade.

Looks like a real clean runner... mine's the same color.

Only thing I would wonder about is why the rear centerpiece in the bumper is not painted silver like it is supposed to be? Maybe it was hit?

I think the 4WD carries a decent premium, not to mention this one is 20k less miles, and has the v8.

I'd say haggle a bit if the timing belt hasn't been done, but other than that, you've got them at a good price. You may also want to check the TMV (true market value, through edmunds.com I think) in addition to the KBB value.

Sounds like a decent deal. I would ask them to do the 90k mile maintenance (timing belt, water pump, etc...) and call it a deal...up to you if you ask them to put tires on it but if it were me I'd tell them not to as they'll just throw on the cheapest thing they have. I bought my 4runner from a dealer who performed all the maintenance (bought it with 92k on the odo) and they put on new Hankook tires as well. I'm not knocking the Hankooks as they're actually "ok" tires but I wanted to pick my tires and go up a size so now I'm just going to wait for a while.

Agreed krupnation! Definitely push for a timing belt and water pump change as that is routine 90k maintenance. If they won't do it then push for another 1k off the price to cover that work.
Other than that looks like a clean 4runner at a good price.
 
I just bought a pretty much identical 4Runner six weeks ago with 115k miles for $16k, with all service records at a dealer and the timing belt done at 85k. I think that's a great price.

Almost! Emailed the Dealer again and asked about any damage, dings, scrapes, etc. I'm also gonna call them tomorrow and try to work something out with the timing belt/water pump. I really dont want to have to drop an extra grand after spending this much... but sometimes it happens. We'll see how it goes..the guy was a bit of a D**k when I was talkin to him on the phone, so we'll see where things go! Thanks for all the advice!

I ended up only getting a few more bucks off, and since I'm having it sent to MD I'll be saving about 750 in taxes. so overall, cleaned and ready to go I paid 12.4k. 91k v8 4x4 gorgeous condition. I just need to get the timing belt done and i'll be good to go.

Wow, that sounds like a nice buy. I am getting ready to plunk down a deposit on an 03 LTD Gold Pkg V8. Niiiiiice.... It has 111K miles on it and is in excellent condition. Price will be 13,500. Think that's a good deal? Based on my limited research (no pun intended), it seemed like a pretty decent deal at just 500 over trade in... Buying it from a private owner with service records, but no new belt/pump...

Talk about a treat! I just came out of a 96 SR5 with a K&N cold air intake and catback Flomaster exhaust to a 3" pipe. Talk about LOUD...! Too tinny. It only had 197K miles and ran like an absolute champ....until the girl behind me decided to total it at 45+ mph at a red light.

I'm a noob here on this forum and am hoping to find a lot of good info for my new ride. Got a lot to learn about mods..

And speaking of which, do most get the belt/pump changed at the stealership, or at an alternate mechanics shop?

Definitely try to get them down in price. No timing belt is at least $500 off, gold color knocks some $ off (less desirable in the 4runner market). Try using the edmunds.com TMV to negotiate. It seems 4runner prices follow these values more closely than KBB.
