thoughts on using.marine grade fuel

A couple local marinas have marine gas, which is ethanol free and also has additives " which basically keep evrything lube"is what a.boat mechanic friend told me. Apparently it helps older motors (esp old 2strokes/ or 4stroke motors not designed to burn ethanol). I think the gas is called "valvtect", don't remember the brand. I'm gonna try either ethanol free gas or the marine valvtect stuff for.my next tank.

Hmm. Just make sure you are not actually putting in 2 cycle fuel, which may have oil included. Dirty for your 4 cycle engine.
 
I buy ethenol free gas all the time, love it. Actually, I filled up today for $3.37 a gallon (ten cents more than 10% ethenol). I get slightly better gas milage and think it is better for o2 sensors. I guess you don't have any regular gas stations selling 87 octane 100% gas? It is getting hard to find.
 
There is only one place in town that I know of, and it is a Cunningham gas place, like for propane etc etc, but they have a pump for ethanol free gas aswell, I'm unsure of the octane and price. I'll check it out This weeknd

That's a good read, cant deduce a + or - overall opinion though. And also , no mention of use in a vehicle.... hmm
 
Finally got to fill up today with ethanol free, 87 octane, 14.3g worth anyways. It was $65 even. It audibly runs a little better, seems to idle a little lower (250-500 rpm)... so we'll see. I'm mostly curious of the gas mileage, see how much it will offset the cost. I'll report back after I burn the tank.

I run 89 octane ethanol free when I am in the area of the station that has it where I'm at. The only think i really notice is a smoother idle.
 
T?@\7, About all that I have found up here are Hardrock and Ocala. Even both of those are about a 2 1/2 hour drive.
 
With 87 octane, ethanol free:
240 mi to tank
16.8 mph

No real change in the numbers, but the motor did run smoothly on it. Tomorrow I'm filling up with 89 octane, ethanol free marine grade "valvtect". Will report back in 240 +- mi
 
If this marine stuff is more expensive I would not run it, all they are doing is putting stuff like sea foam in the gas.
 
Too late :-)

Based on the price and difficulty of hauling the cans, unless I get some miraculous improvement I won't be doing it again! :-D
 
16.6 mpg, nothing too notable. Gonna stick with 87 ethanol free, turns out the marine gas is actually -+1% ethanol.
