So there I was about to buy ome 3" lift when I decided to wait until the weekday and that Saturday I blew my engine on a trail. Good news is that I didn't waste $700.

Anyways does anybody have any suggestions, or an extra good condition 3.4 '97 engine they'd like to sale? I'm gonna keep the 4runner and probably buy another one as well like an '01. Found one I like.

you canfind replacement engines easily. you can use any 3.4 from a 4runner, Tacoma, tundra, etc. All years of 3.4s should work.

I'd suggest trying YotaTech since there's always at least one engine swap going down at a time there.

Any year block will work but FYI, the ECUs, some sensors like the air flow/O2 and MAFs have changed, and the throttle bodies have changed from cable accuated to throttle-by-wire throughout the years. You could probably use your sensors and ECU on a newer block or you could get all the new electronics with the new block. The big fear of getting too new of a block (like say a '04 Taco) is your '97 electronics may or may not thread in the holes. And yes yotatech has a lot more info on engine swaps than here (there's actually a swap section).

But the good thing is that there are a lot of 3.4 engines available for you to swap in. A lot of online sellers and junkyards would have them.

it has 201k on it and ran great just revved too high while trailing. I'll keep other suggestions in mind too. Thanks for the input so far everyone.

what about just doing an engine swap since your picking up another runner to drive in the mean time, you now have a dedicated trail rig to start building.....

just a thought other wise it should be easy to find another 3.4 engine for a decent price i see them on the CL here quite often
