Throttle body gasket

I will be pulling the entire throttle body on my 1996 V-6 T4R, to clean the throttle with CRC throttle body cleaner. Question: In addition to the NEW throttle body gasket, do I need to also use a gasket sealant ? Or is the NEW gasket enough ?

No sealant on the throttle body, or anywhere on the intake, as far as I know. I've done my knock sensors (multiple times) which requires removing the entire intake and didn't use a drop of sealant anywhere, only gaskets. No vacuum leaks anywhere.

Don't worry, this isn't a GM vehicle. Toyota actually designed its gaskets to seal the connections.

Just a reminder...don't crank on the bolts reattaching the throttle body. Torque spec is a lite 13 ft lb.
Most tend to crank on the bolts thinking to seal out vacuum leaks.

Are you cleaning the IAC valve as well? You will certainly need a new gasket for it.

If you are not removing the IAC be careful not to let any gunk run down into it.

I crank on them and never experienced a problem once. Dont put my body weight into it but certainly dont worry about going over 13lbs. Torque spec is nothing more than a minimum, what's the worst that could happen?

Bolt snaps or bolt threads strip out

I use a 1/4 drive and two fingers. Never needed a torque wrench for smalls unless it is a head gasket on my dirt bike. 13ftlbs.

Yes, I will be removing and cleaning the IAC. Are you saying that I'll need a separate gasket for the IAC (in addition to the throttle body gasket) ????

It's a figure 8 shaped o-ring in there. It's kind of important since one passage is for coolant flowing through the IAC and throttle body.

Make sure you use a JIS screwdriver or a VERY GOOD phillips on the IAC screws also. Lots of people have had problems stripping the heads. My Klein phillips fits them very well and had no problems.

I've got a '98 V6 I need to clean the IAC valve on and will replace the TB gasket while its off. Looks like the IAC gasket PN is 22215-62180, can anyone confirm that fitment and know the part number for the TB gasket? Looks like it may be different than later 3rd gens? TIA

it should be same gasket, I would also do the ICV gasket, pull it apart and clean the idle control valve.
