I have seen that a Throttle body spacer is suppose to increase your hp and gas mileage. Can anyone atest to this?
Thanks

They do not really do anything, just cause a slighly different induction noise.

If you do a search here I am sure you will find many discussions on them

It won't do what is claimed and the only thing it will increase is how much money you are spending.

I've seen them go onto lots of different vehicles (5). Certain vehicles (some small-block Chevys) do respond to them. Most vehicles don't. It seems the more advanced the fuel injection system the less they help. I tried one on my Nissan Titan and notice a very minor improvement in the initial throttle response, VERY MINOR. As far as MPG is concerned, I got nothing.

What did make a difference was bypassing the throttle body's coolant passage. On the Nissan (I haven't looked at the T4R to even know), they ran a small amount of coolant through the throttle body to stabilize the temp in an effort to make the drivability more consistent and avoid icing. When I bypassed that coolant line it definitely performed a touch better and I picked up .5mpg. Now, keep in mind I live in Florida, I'm not sure I would do this if I lived in a colder climate, especially a cold, damp climate.

I tell this story because the Titan had current design fuel injection and a modern engine management, as does our T4R's.

Good Luck

Most Toyota engines from back through the '90s are direct port injection meaning the air and fuel won't mix til they're in the cylinder head rendering any effects the TBS might have useless.

Those spacers are definitely a waste of money! Disconnecting the throttle body coolant lines here in New England or any other cold climate will definitely cause icing!

I have one. Nothing gained but a whistle, no MPG, no increase at all on the highly calibrated butt-dyno. Planning on removing it soon to get rid of the whistle. I will leave the FIPK on.

Don't waste your time and money.

That's really all the proof I need right there. Someone with same application tried it and it failed to present any gains...even if its is astronomically small difference there are plenty of other ways to see the gains this investment would require. (Example: using 91 gas, changing fluids to full synthetic, better intake system {small gains here too}, or even just driving more conservatively.)

NCSCOTT, thanks for clearing this up for us

Happy trails!:lookout:

You're all doing it wrong. One TBS isn't enough, but if you paint them bright red and stack two of them back to back, you can dragrace a jet plane.

Well I don't want to get flamed, but I have an aFe spacer and I definitely noticed a power increase. I got a new JET MAF sensor. Gave me about a 1.5mpg increase.

Please don't start a fight guys, I'm just telling you how it is for me.

I have AFE Silver bullet with other mods but for me I feel it. I have never dyno'd only buttdyno. If I get enough money for a supercharger, dude I going to get a 4Runner big bro Landcruiser. Avg $5000 not installed- nope. I'd invest that and make interest or go to Vegas and recreate The Hangover :))). But for me I'm ok spending a few bucks for some improvement but not everyone on here will agree. search (sorry guys) xrunner underground for performance/speed mods. Heres mainly offroad tips tricks and tools, but great advice. Be nice fellas.
