I wanted to say Hi and thank you for this site, it has been so helpful to me.
I just got a 87' 22re 4runner and I think the PO was a crackhead, that being said the truck did not run when I got it, and by going thru this site I have got it up and running, not great but it is a start and for that I wanted to thank you.
What my problem is I think is my TPS setting, I went to set it and the PO had removed it so got a new one and went to set it and the PO had removed the throttle stop screw as well. I found the screw and lock nut in a parts box and I set the screw to after reading here to just touch and then 1/4 turn, then set my TPS. my question was is this the setting? has anyone else set it to this and it is correct?.. my problems are it shifts the AT to soon and then seems to not have as much power after shifts from 1st to 2nd.
The things I have done to it so far to get it running...
Replaced the Dist cap, rotor, plugs, wires, coil.
Checked the battery and alt, Bat is 13.2v and alt is 14.62v running with the headlights, defrost fan, radio, AC on.
Compression test was, 154, 152, 151, 150
New cat and muffler and pipe from header back done.
Adjusted valves as per FSM (looked very nice in there like it was a newer head)
Checked vacuum leaks.
Newish air intake tube No cracks.
Timing set to 6btdc (can not move more PO must have put it in 1 spline off and going to fix this when I do the timing chain.)
Ordered new Timing chain, oil pump, water pump from ENGNBLDR.COM because the left top of the plastic guide is broken but still in place.
Got a bit confused when I tried to check the vacuum switches and need to do some research more to how to do that.
Checked fuel pressure at the cold start and 38lbs and does not go below 22lbs after sitting about an hour.
I hate to ask for assistance but can not find info on the throttle stop screw after the fact, and as some have stated here people just get things runing and leave and don't show the "I FIXED IT" post.
Any help would be awesome,
