Hi everyone,
I have been searching through these pages for about 3 days now, and have really done nothing but make myself nervous about other potential problems! LOL.
Late last week I picked up my first 4Runner since I had my '88. It is a 2006 Sports Edition V8.
I apologize if I am missing a previous thread here, but I drove the 2006 from Chicago home to Minneapolis... about 6 hrs at 65-75mph pretty much continually. Ran beautifully... for the most part.
This was essentially the first drive I had in the truck, and I noticed an intermittent re-occurring thud. At first I almost imagined something kicked up from the road, but by the 4th time or so over the 6 hr drive I started to get concerned. There seems to be a dull thud that sounds to be in the mid to rear area of the truck.
There was no pattern though. I was simply cruising at a steady speed each time, no shifting, no acceleration, no major bumps in the road.
I then noticed it once on a short trip in the city at a steady 30mph. I have only driven it for about another hour since, with no noise.
I am aware of the common thud issue, and have noticed it first hand on a friend's '08 V8. But that involved stopping - not traveling at a steady 70mph.
I plan to grease up all the zerks as per posted in this forum (thank all of you for the amazing information on that!).
Sorry for the long post, but can anyone point me to a thread that is potentially is hitting on this?
Also, I had another noise show up while on that freeway drive and once while idling in my garage. You know how a pan in the oven will sometimes flex and pop? I heard that come from the truck randomly. Could there be a heat shield that flexes? I could not find a thread on this either.
Thanks!
