Thule Force size large on 5th Gen

Is anyone running a Thule Force cargo box, size large, on a 5th gen with factory bars? I searched, but didn't find someone running the large with the factory rails.

I already have the box, but haven't bought the rails. The factory rails worked fine on my 4th gen with the longer side rails. That little bit of storage is such a game changer for road trips with kids and a dog.

I have the Boxter sitting on the factory rails. The Boxter, although not made any longer is pretty good size.

I will comment on my experience before I purchase my Gobi. When I had my box on it limited how far I could open the rear hatch. Another problem I ran in to is even if I put it further forward the front of the box would bounce on my sunroof. I really wish that the factory rack went all the say up to the front of the roof.

I was originally hoping to go the cheaper route with the factory bars, but it seems like having a wider set to hold the box and a couple surf boards (per my daughter) may be more practical.

I do not have pictures but yes I do. On mine it interfered with the rear lift gate on factory rails so I drilled additional holes for it to sit further forward. It would bounce on the sunroof as result until I got my Gobi.

I have a thule evolution and it looked like it would hit my antenna fin. Luckily I had some crossbars laying around and bought a set of Yakima cross bar mount things for the stock rails. It raised it up enough to clear the antenna. I didn't want it to sit too far forward and get the bouncing that the people above mentioned, so some paracord and a carabiner was used to prevent my hatch from hitting the box.

I have run my Thule Atlas 1200 on the factory bars but I don't like to. The clamps will hit the roof as I tighten them down. There is also very little space between the tightened clamp and the roof.

I run Yakima rails with older load grabber (i think). I like the setup much better than the stock bars. I bought my stuff 10+ years ago and just keep moving it from car to car. You can also find good deals on Craigslist of people selling stuff a few years old.

I have the Thule Force L and I use the factory rails. The rails sit close to the roof and when the feet of the roof box are in their open position they will rest on the roof. But they have rubber feet and will do no damage to the paint. However, once you tighten the feet to clamp to the rail, they clear just fine and you will have absolutely zero problems. I use it very very regularly with no issue. My 4runner is in the shop but I will be getting it back on Tuesday if you want pictures.

It’ll fit fine on factory rails with factory crossbars. Like somebody mentioned earlier, it’ll sit really low, even touch your roof (the claws), but once you clamp them down (tighten), it’ll be fine. Yes the rubber on the claws will not scratch your roof. I had the box in the most forward position on my rails/crossbars to clear the hatch and not rest on the shark fin antenna.

I had heard stories of boxes bouncing off of people's roofs when running cargo boxes on factory bars so I opted for Thule Aeroblades to mount my Thule Force Large. Just got back from a 4,000 mile Tetons trip with no complaints.

Not sure it is applicable, but I ran the same box on my 4th gen factory bars and there was noticeable wind noise (sun roofs on both trucks). Zero noise on the new setup.

Sorry - I think I took some pictures but have no idea what I did with them. I ended up putting a front runner rack on. No regrets or issues. The feet did contact the roof when in the open position but absolutely cleared when closed. Even if they were touching, they did no damage to the paint as long as you're being careful. I liked this setup a lot and had no issues whatsoever. There was little to no wind noise and I felt the L had enough space for what I used it for.

How did this work out for you? I have sr5 with factory rails looking at Thule pulse medium. Worried about when loaded down denting roof with the Thule clamps.

I am running stock bars here with the Force box, hatch opened fine for me.
