Has anyone had any experience with this thing? Easy on and off? will it fit the racks of our Runners? Sears has it for $80.00, I am thinking of getting it for my road trip tomorrow, just for some extra room. How much weight can the racks of our Runners take?

I have one, but bought it used. It is made well and fits between the front and rear horizontal roof-rack bars. Fits a decent amount and can be cincned down to fit smaller item not filling the bag up all the way.

I'm not sure if it was because I received it used, but I needed to add a couple tie down straps because mine only came with 2.

I'm interested as well. In the picture, it looks like the bag is actually sitting in between the cross bars. Is this the normal position? Seems like it would scratch the roof. Plus, the factory rack is rated at 150 lbs, not the roof itself. I guess you could just slide the crossbars close enough and have the bag sit on top. Not sure.

What generation 4Runner do you have?

My 2nd gen's rack has a sticker that reads 100lbs max. From what I've read the other generations are rated somewhere around 100-165lbs. Check your manual & the rack its self.

Here is a pic how the Cargo Bag is mounted, I am concerned about its weight resting on the roof.

The bag will rest on the roof, it is a bag it will not rest ontop of the cross-rack bars. I had no issue with mine. I guess it could scratch the roof if you put it on the roof when it is dirty. I use it only for lighter bulky items, tents, sleeping bags, pillows, clothing bags, etc... For this purpose it does a good job.

If you had a cargo rack it would not be on the roof, either that or you need to look into hard case roof-top carriers. But they are a different price point.

I think this bag looks more appropriate to be used on Roof baskets. Also, the $80 model (846) you saw is not weather proof. They have an 847 weatherproof version for about $170.
Inno makes a very cool one that sits on top of the roof bars, but it is over $200. Might be worth it.

Funny you ask. I just picked one up for my road trip back home to NJ from Indiana next Friday. The purchase of a 50" TV + other things over the summer leads me to need more room lol.

Depending on how big it is I plan on either stuffing it with clothes or putting the entire suitcase in it.

Its gonna be a tight squeeze either way and the roof is going to have to be utilized lol.
