thunk/thump on sharp right turn

I just bought a 98 4wd sr5 with 107k it is decent condition, mainly just the normal wear and tear. My only issue is when i make a semi sharp right turn i hear and feel a thump under the drivers side. i read a post saying that it could be dry metal on metal contact to the steering stops, and all it needs is a little grease, but everyone on that post had an '03 on. Is this a possibility on my truck? it only happens occasionally, on right turns and maybe when i hit a pothole (i could be listening to hard) i havent tried the grease thing yet but will as soon as i get a chance. Any help would be appreciated, i just graduated from school and dont really have the cash to take it to a mechanic. The truck runs and drives beautifully other than that. thank you.

p.s. the drivers side seatbelt doesnt retract very well is there an easy fix? or should i not worry about it.

man this is funny

i have had the same problem... w/ my 96
it was when trun and mainly comming of driveways and hitting the little slope of a curb...
but it is pretty loude kinda metal popping sound... kinda like a spring unloading. ill try and get some pictures up on what to check but my sister has my truck...

all it is is a little pit that had a rubber pice and the pin is snapping thought the hole that is shoule have a nut on the end of the pin but thats all... you could prob put it back yourself

its the same on the right and left side... so just check what is missing

really its no big deal BUT IT NEED SO BE FIXED! ASAP!

thank you, pictures would be great, im a little confused as to what it is, a pin that is supposed to have a rubber piece and a nut on it which is snapping? what does the pin do? im sure i could figure out how to fix it, did you fix it yourself? do i need a specific piece? if its no big deal why does it need to be fixed asap? what will happen? any more info would be extremely helpful. thank you for your time.

yeah man.. like i said my sister has my car but ill get it back like 9 tonight! ill take some pictures and post them.... i didnot do it my self i can look at the papers we have and see how much it cost to fix it....
i am really not sure what the pin does but anything bronken prob needs to be fixed soon....

i cant do anything now but ill post something later 2night

wow you were dead on, the nut and both rubber things are completely gone, im gonnna bring it back to the dealer on monday, hopefully he'll pay for it but i doubt it , i hope it doesnt cost too much, thanks for your help man.

if i was to buy the sway bar link, bushings and bolts do you think i could do it myself? i have minimal knowledge of cars but i know tools.

That is the sway bar end link. Super easy to do it yourself. The only problem is, the dealerships want $70 EACH for those flimsy little things.

What I would do is get ones from Wab Fab. (www.wabfab.org) The ones you get from him are STOUT. I will personally vouch for the quality of the workmanship. They are cheaper than OEM ($120 shipped) and will last you a lifetime. Plus they are quick disconnects (disco's) for when you go wheeling.

Mine was broken right in half (seen in the picture).

So I replaced them with Wab Fab's :bigok:

Do not get OEM's again. They'll just snap on you.


Oh, the tools you need are a set of allen wrenches and a socket set.

You don't need a lift. It would be a little easier, but not necessary.

Um, if the bushings and the nuts are gone, chances are, the endlink is broken. There is no way that the bushings or the nuts would just fall off without the endlink snapping.

If you've ever taken one out, you will see why.

I've actually have seen it, not on mine and I've also have replaced the bushings. From the way its setup and with the vibrations that go on down there if the nut loosens (for some reason) and comes off the sway bar can lift off the endlink if the wheel articulates down enough and the endlink can still be intact. It would probably be a good idea to replace the endlink if its been going on for awhile since the thread is probably shot.

yea its definitley broken, i ordered one off ebay before i knew about WABFAB, oh well i just gotta get the bushings and nuts a stufff from a dealer, shouldnt be too expensive, i cant wait to install it though, i want my truck to drive properly again, the leak misteriously stopped too.
