Ticking from transmission?

Alright so this is my problem. theres this annoying ticking sound ive herd it for a long time but not its starting to get loud. it sounds like its comeing from the transmission area. sorry for this video took it in the dark just so you can hear the ticking. im holding the phone right under the transmission though. Oh the ticking stops when im driving but then i come to a stop 5mph and under you can slowly hear it come back. heres the video lemmy know what you think. its the 3.4, i dont think the tranny fluid has ever been changed.

When you said ticking I thought exhaust but that doesn't sound like exhaust at all. It does sound like something on the belt system though. Also, check your fan shroud to make sure it's not bend upwards or downwards toward the blade but I would think the tapping would be at a faster pace if it was the fan.

i forgot to say, it usaly only does it after i drive it for a good while. otherwise it doesnt tick. like a good 20 mins before i can hear it

ok ill guess its the idler pully and just try that first.

Sounds to me either an exhaust leak somewhere under there. Can you see any black carbon spots by any flanges on the exhaust??
Try looking where the O2 sensor bolts in.

Get under the truck and have someone hold their hand "with a rag or 2" over the end of the exhaust and block the exhaust from coming out. You will have to put a little pressure on it, It's pretty powerful coming out. If there is a leak somewhere, as soon as they plug it up you will hear it leaking. Try not to hold it for to long. Don't want to blow a gasket out. Hold for 3-4 sec and release. Try that a few times.
Just make sure you try this on a cool or cold exhaust. Best time is when you first start it up.

I'm confused. is the noise coming from the tranny or the engine? Get a stethescope and figure that out 1st. I don't see how and idler pulley could sound like it's coming from the tranny. And I've heard bad idler pulleys squeal and groan, but not tick. I would think exhaust when you say tick like cfrank1 said. If it is in fact coming from the tranny, the torque converter is known to tick when it gets close to death.

thanks for the replys. it sounds like its right at the transmission. every time i get it on a lift we lift it up and it seems like the tick is no longer there. we where trying to use a stethoscope. ill try the exhaust thing. could it be the exhaust even though i only hear it while its hot? i was thinking flex plate or something

how fast are you traveling in the clip?

Heat shield on exhaust bouncing up and down?

Internals of the catalytic converter slapping around? (Don't know how common that is, but I've seen it on a honda.)

i was sitting in a parkinglot. it doesnt tick when moving only on idle.

Broken exhaust hanger?

Get under there, shake everything in site and get a visual inspection on everything.
