Time for a new battery....

No special requirements (i.e. no mods). Just looking for a good long lasting battery that's not going to leave me stranded somewhere..... I've got a 2004, any special brackets for the optimas?

2004 already needs a battery? How'd you do that? High power amps or winch? I've seen batteries last for 10-12 years...

Combination of a couple of things -- both of which are attributable to living in Dallas -- high milage and extreme summertime temps. It's not "dead" yet, I had it tested and it tested at "marginal".

In hotter climates, you can only count on a battery lasting about 3 years or so... In Arizona, it's not uncommon for batteries to fail every 1-2 years.

When my factory battery on my 4Runner decides to give up, I'm going to get an Optima red-top.

Does anybody know the group type for the '03+ 4Runner?

Ricky

Consumer reports tested a bunch of batteries in Novemebr last year and actually rated some of the Wal-mart EverStart versions as the best for long life, reserve capacity, and CCA.

I think Toyotas use a type 35 battery, in which case the top performers according to CR were the Napa Legend 7535, and Wal-Mart EverStart 35-3N or 3S (for nothern or southern climates). AC Delco batteries rated highly for some other types, but not type 35. Sears' DieHard brand didn't fair too well.

I just put in one of those gold topped batteries from vatozone. Works well with a 3yr warranty and 7yr prorated. Not a bad deal since they had one with the terminals reversed. The 34R optima's are overpriced.

I've got a Yellow Top in both the 4R and Grand Prix. Costcos batteries are decent for the price as well as is their warranty.

10-12 years:awais: your just asking to replace a alternator.

99 % of the batteries out there will not make it past 6 years. I replace mine before it is needed. Once I get five years out of her, I start looking for sales in the newspaper and pick one up before it leaves me stranded. I have seen alternators go 12 years, but then again the two bearings will be on thier way out and there will not much left on the brush-set at that age.
