Time for a roof basket...what say you?

Weather is turning, time to get the roof basket crossed off for camping.

I need to replace the original cross bars with something more heavy-duty [might get a RTT eventually] and I'm looking to get a setup that works with the stock rails.

What basket set-ups do you guys have, what have you been happy with? Need something that will handle 300-400lbs...

Nice quality you won't want to get rid of, you can't go wrong with Gobi, Baja, or Whitson Metalworks.

Since you're in Portland, you should go talk to ReRack about replacing the factory bars with a Yakima or Thule set-up and see what they say about them handling that much weight on the roof. Might be a decently cheap option for you.

Less about budget, just needs to do the job. 300-400lbs, works with the stock rails...

I have the the Whitson Metal Works 3/4 rack which would definitely support a tent + more.

However, IMO putting 300-400 pounds on your roof if asking for trouble. Why do you need that much weight up there? I would try to keep the extra weight as low as possible.

I'm assuming the 300-400 lb requirement is for when he actually has a RTT and is RTT-sleeping. I don't think he means he's hauling 300-400lbs of gear around on the daily, just wants to make sure whatever rack/basket/option he goes with will support his weight plus the RTT plus other weight, all while using the stock rails.
