Time for new shocks...suggestions?

Hey guys heres another shocks thread for ya...

I have a 99 Limited 4X4 and its got 241K so yeah kinda about that time for shocks. Im a college student so yes money matters but want some suggestions. No Im not mechanically inclined and have a mechanic ill take it to to get the job done. We have a few lexus in the family and wouldnt mind a smoother ride but cost is always a factor

In addition who wouldnt want a lift? Is there any shocks that will lift my truck? Sorry to say but I am 100% clueless on lifts and recently put up another post about a $600 lift but was advised against doing a spacer lift. Any help would be great....thanks guys!

It all really depends on ur budget. Bilstein makes a great product. For front and back. And they even offer shocks for the front that will give a lift. If you really to want to lift it you can use landcruiser coils or old man emu coils to lift the rear as well.

Does that mean I should buy land cruiser coils in addition to shocks....your speaking to someone that is clueless on suspension parts and what not.

Can someone explain swapping out the land cruiser coils? Maybe a link on what to buy...and if I buy said product do I just ask my mechanic to swap them out and it will give me a lift? If so about how much of a lift does it give? thanks

How much time you want to invest? If you want to save money and go with a good used set like Tundra setup for front and LC for rears, you're gonna have to be patient and check a bunch of sale forums or check out junkyards. If you want to save time and spend a little more money for new parts, check out the many vendors for T4R parts.

If you want lift, you're gonna want to swap out shocks and coils. I got all my coils and shocks brand new from Wheeler's Off Road for $520 shipped, though this did require me to assemble front struts myself.

Yup, can't go wrong with a set of Bilsteins...thinking of doing the same myself. Definitely check the fac sections as mentioned, but it really is about your budget. It sounds like your best bet for the time being is to swap out the shocks- simple, effective, and this alone may improve the ride a lot!

I just installed Bilsteins all the way around this past weekend. I absolutely love them... ride feels really tight and way more refined over bumps. Granted, I'm comparing them to stocks with 173k on them. Removal is a total PITA- took 7 hours trying to fit wrenches into tight places or sawzall/drilling/prying and hoping the rusted ends would just snap. It's fun to work on the car, but you will save plenty of time paying to have it done. Good luck with your decision!

If I want to lift it should I wait for schocks...I want to do some sort of small lift (3" prefered) but want to know more info on swapping out with land cruiser coils and details on a cheap lift

Monroe quick struts

Yes, I know they are not too sexy or cool, but has anyone installed the Monroe Quick struts for the '99 T4R at Advance Auto?
They appear to be by far the easiest and cheapest possible replacement and mild lift possible. Reviews on the site show that they give an inch or two lift, though that may just be due to the sagging springs they replace.
I don't need top of the line suspension, just something with a decent ride that I can do in the driveway with possibly an inch or two lift.
Also for one stop shopping, how are the Moog rear coils specified the '99?
These will be for 99% on road and the off-road is likely just beach sand dunes.

I have a 1999 Highlander, and I went with Monroe Sensa-Trac's all around, since they don't affect the ride height. Pretty cheap too, ~ $150-200 all-around. Good OEM replacement for 99 tall springs.

i too am starting to look into new shocks. i got my 4runner with a 2.5" or 3'' old man emu suspension lift. Haven't seen any replies on here yet about a smoother ride which is my MAIN concern. open to suggestions.

I went cheap at first and did Old Man Emu but after three years of wheelin and loving it I threw down and went with remote reservoir ICON's all the way around and it is AMAZING. This way I can have the Lexus ride quality on the highway and suck up the bumps offroad because they have a CDC adjustment valve on each reservoir I just "dial-a-ride".
