Wahts it like installing a new single din receiver in the 4Runner? Where do i buy the brackets for install, and the pocket to put stuff in the new free space?

I have my eye fixated on the Clarion CZ401 through crutchfield. Except they dont include anything but a wiring harness.

Thanks for helping!

Also! Anybody know what kind of value a fully functioning and aesthetically clean, factory receiver will get me?

Crutchfield has always provided me with everything, including the pocket. If I didn't want the pocket, they gave me a trim panel that centered the receiver in the spot. Call them up and talk to someone, I'm sure you'll get whatever you need. I've been using them for 14 years and have yet to be disappointed.

Couple on here in the audio section talked about a place calls bestkits and some have also ordered the kit from Walmart

amazon has everything you need.

the brackets come off the stock stereo, and you need to buy butt connectors unless you want to solder a bunch of wires together

All of the above are correct. LOL

I usually default to Crutchfield for the head unit *ONLY* because they will literally sit on the phone for HOURS with you to walk you through installing it if need be. If I want to save a ton, I'll go with Amazon.com as well.

I've used Best Kits and Scosche single DIN mounting hardware before.

Check out sonicelectronix. Got a head unit from them came with wire harness and pocket and free shipping. Even sent me another wire harness when I asked for one that would work with factory amp.

I use these guys: 1999 TOYOTA 4 RUNNER - stereo parts installation photos charts and install wires

They always have what I need and they don't sell the actual H/U; so you can still buy it on Amazon or wherever is cheapest. They just sell the stuff that makes it fit and work. Don't expect hours of help on the telephone, but I have never needed or wanted that.

But this is what they say she looks like, so maybe I'm missing something:
