I like the skid plate. I ordered mine from stealer (at cost) and will pick it up today.

This is just an idea. I think if you powder coat the step or the side of it in silver to match with the roof rack so the step doesn't look out of place and the black standout too much.

The skid plate install was pretty easy. Just make sure to tighten the "mushrooming" anchor pretty good. You'll know what I mean when you open the box. :D

There's a bit of room to adjust

Wow! what nice looking rig you have there!!Have you gone off roading already? How easy is the Volant CAI mod to install? Will it make a lot of noise?

I haven't done any serious off roading yet... I need to get the body lift (1") before I go in to the "dirty" stuff. The tires will rub with the body due to their large size. Other people with 285s cured this problem with a 1" body lift. If you're going to do tire upgrade, I recommend max of 275. 285s look good but not practical.

The Volant... It's a cake. It shouldn't take more than 30~45 min max. It's a bit noisy under hard acceleration, but it sounds tough. A mix of woosh and growling sound. I really like the sound! Just my personal opinion. :D

I'm not sure how it will sound alone with stock exhaust, but with the Magnaflow, it's wild!
 
Did you do the MagnaFlow yourself? That's going to be my next mod but I am not sure the degree of difficulty involved there! Are there any advantages of using the Volant CAI?

Man!!! How did I miss this post???

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I don't remember getting any email on this.

Anyways, I had the Magnaflow intalled by a local muffler shop for $50. I was there when he was doing it and besides the shop having a lift, there's no real disadvantage intalling it yourself. Very straight forward... no welding or cutting.

Love the ride. Back when you had the 285/70/17 Revo's on with stock wheels and NO spacers were you able to drive with minimal rubbing? I am going to upsize to 285's soon and was wondering if you were able to get by without spacers?

With your setup... NO PROBLEM! :rocker:

I had no problems with Revos even with just the 3" spacers. All you need to do is the usual trimming of the wheel well liners and you're done. Where you cut is going to vary a bit depending on the alignment setup, so you need to experiment a bit.

Don't be afraid to install the tires and drive around to find out where the "rub" is. The noise you hear is way louder than it sounds. There won't be any damage. :D You need to turn the wheel short of full lock and go over a driveway curb. That way you can check its max compressed "rub". Trim and repeat the process again.

When I bought my Volant CAI, I was told that you cannot put a throttle body spacer on there as well...I says this straight on Volant's website. Just curious how you did this.

I had to cut the rubber flange about 1" I think. Can't remember for sure. After that I think I had about 1/2" clearance from the fan. It was pretty tight.

Because of the cut of the flange, the intake tube didn't flex as much. Actually it became pretty rigid.

I can't really say how much power or fuel I'm saving, though.

Time to part with my 4runner... :sadwave:

We have a baby (our 3rd) coming up in the next few days and had to buy a larger suv (yukon denali). I know, I know. It's a big clumsy beast, but that's what we need for our new addition to the family.

So, if anyone is interested, please let me know. It will be listed on ebay in a few days.
