Time to upgrade

So my gf got into an accident in my 4R this weekend. Other driver failed to yield, and she hit him. She walked away with some bruises, good thing she wasnt in her crapbox Kia or she might be in the hospital. Damage doesnt look bad, but bad enough I dont want it repaired I will shoot for a new 4R. I have a month left of this deployment so its pretty frustrating but so far all 3 insurance companies are playing nice.

So another 4th gen V8 SE or one of the 12 TE on my dealer's lot? That is the question.

I went from a 4th gen limited V8 to a 5th gen SR5 and was glad for it. Then, also after an accident, I went from an SR5 to a TE. Again glad for it.
 
There is 1 black and 1 MG TE in my area that I think I am set on so now I just have to call the insurance tomorrow and see what they are gonna do.
 
V8 and don't let "Girlfriends" drive your 4Runner anymore. Why she driving it in the first place?
 
Most important thing is your gf walked away. Did you like the V8? If so, get another 4th gen V8. I couldn't live without that wonderful engine.
 
Why do you assume her Kia is less safe than your 4Runner? In fact most Kia's earn 5 star crash test ratings, they're some of the safest cars on the road.

Sorry bout your loss though. I like bells and whistles so I'd prob go with the newer 4Runner. I'd never buy a 4th gen with a v6 but since the 5th gen isn't offered with it so you don't have much choice.

Ask yourself if v8 torque is worth more than a newer vehicle with less miles and more features.
 
Personally, I've driven plenty of 4th and 5th gens when I purchased my '07 V8. I even took a '11 TE on some mild off-roading, and it did great, but after driving the V8, I couldn't pass it up. Now that I put a couple $$ into it, it's even better. I love my truck!!!

Go with the V8 and use her "pain and suffering" money to get yourself some mods :naughty:
 
I hope this question isn't too far fetched but why not just let the insurance company fix it? It doesn't look totaled at all and it seems like a good move if you aren't planning on going for a 5th gen
 
I'd go for the 4th Gen with the V8--it's a good engine, it'll leave you money for immediate mods, and (totally subjective part) they look better than the 5th Gen (no throwing things, 5th Gen fans!).
 
This thread's weak. What better time to mod the thing, as long as the frame's decent, heck, even then you can chop as far back as the firewall and goto squaretube, a little 1-3/4", flip front end, long travel...

Well insurance is totaling it and giving me $23.5k minus $500 ded. Which is a little less than I paid for it a few years ago. So at this point I am going to test some 5th Gens and concurrently search for a mint 4th Gen V8 4x4 SE. My first 4th Gen was the exact same config as this one except it was V6 so I know for sure if I look at another 4th Gen it will have to be V8.

When I am deployed she takes it out of the stable from time to time to keep the juices flowing so to speak.

Ill drive a new one and see how I like it. My goal is to buy it outright and I can trade in my TDI to make that happen since this one was paid off for a long time.

I dont know how bad it is and I dont want any gremlins coming back to bite me in the backside later on when I am headed to the slopes, beach, mtns, etc.

I do seem to have an affinity for Ti Silver 4x4 SE's.

Kind of hard to make that call while I am out here so I will err on the side of caution.
 
If you do not get another V8 you will be pissed off everytime you drive it. You will miss the V8 low end torque. As you know with the V8 you barely have to hit the gas to get moving with the 5th gens you have to floor it to get it to move at the same rate from a standstill.

I know you're right. Also I have about 3 years worth of maintenance parts and supplies for the V8 already and all my mods I was able to salvage. I'm thinking about a 08/09 V8 so I can buy it cash.
