Timing Belt Advice (or confirmation) needed!!

hey gang....

I am poised to do the timing belt update, but the stealership has quoted $885.

I want to buy the parts myself and have a mechanic install them.

Pls advise **in depth** all the parts that should be purchased.

I believe:
water pump
timing belt
3 drive belts
2 cam seals
crank seal

do i need:
pulley
pulley w/tensioner
*anything else

Pls advise as I want to get this done.
Kinda scared to drive the truck at this time.

Now for an update are you just talking changing the timing belt. Or are you talking updating it to a new system. If you are just replacing the timing belt you should be able to get by with just the timing belt. Now if you are updating to a newer system you may need to purchase all the parts you mentioned above. This really depends on how extensive an update you are talking.

It's not that he's updating anything, it's just routine maintenance to do while you're in there. If any one of those components should fail within the next few thousand miles, it would suck to have to tear it down all over again. At the first TB service (~90K), most people can get by with just replacing the TB, WP, and thermo. But basically everything on that list should be done or at least thouroughly inspected at the next TB service (~180K).

I didn't see his mileage in either thread, or any idea as to a first or second change, so I won't answer this question 'in-depth'. It makes a lot of difference if this a first time at 90K, a catch-up at 160K, or a second time at 180K.

But I agree with Brian in general. And no need for a second thread.
