Timing belt question

I replaced the timing belt on my 97 T4R V6 when it hit 61,033 miles. The truck has just rolled over 117,700 miles and the last time I brought it in, my service guy said that the belt is coming close to time for another replacement.

Here is my dilemma. I have a new 06 T4R on order & I will take delivery on it sometime in March. I don't think it is worth it for me pay the parts & labor to replace the timing belt, knowing that I will not recoup that on the sale. However, I worry if the belt will be fine for the next 5,000 miles I will have it.

I am guessing that since the first belt went over 60,000 miles, the second one should go that far as well & I should be good until I sell the truck. And when I sell it, I simply tell the new owner that they may want to get it replaced soon as general maintenance?

What is your opinion?

If I'm not mistaken the recommended change is 90K miles. I have 80K on mine.

The reccomended change from Toyota on the 97 is 60k. I am right at about 56k now & I am confident that I am safe, but the last thing I want to do is snap a belt the week before selling the truck! :bash:

I'd say don't worry about it. My '93 Mazda is on its original belt with about 103k. I know I'm on borrowed time, but since I have my 4R on order, it's not worth the few hundred to spend on it. I don't think I'll be able to extract anymore useful life of out it, if I spend that money. Not to mention it's getting a salvage title from DMV.

If it is the 3.4, it is more. I have the 98 3.4.

People who are replacing belts that have +100k miles on them say they still look good. So, I'd say you'll be fine. :)
