Timing belt tensioner

Is the timing belt tensioner for a 1992 toyota4runner v6 a spring or a hydrolic, mine went out and i ordered a spring tensioner, but i looked at the one that is out, and it looks different than the one that i ordered.

I believe it is a "spring type" tensioner if it is anything like our 1990(see pic).

It is unusual that the actual spring fails, but if so, you might just pick one up at the local dealer. I believe they are pretty inexpensive, even from them. It was the top roller bearing that was going on ours.

IIRC, they switched from the spring to the hydraulic some time in 92. So it could be either.

Llmc, that is a totally different motor, mine is the 3.0 I am not seeing a spot forthe spring to be attached

K, I went to o'reillys and we think it's a motor put of a 93 because the fan let housing...
