Timing Belt vs. Timing Chain

It seems that if you can, I will find out from Tai...I thought I had heard somewhere that you can convert a Timing belt to a chain...anyone know if this is possible???...BTW, I have an 04 V8 Sport...thanks...

I don't have an answer to your question. In my opinion, just stick with what you have.

It would seem very unlikely you could change from a timing belt to a chain or the reverse.

Timing chains require constant lubrication so they are internal to the engine so they can use the pressurized lubricating system.

Timing belts are external to the engine and are protected so they are not exposed to any fluids. Lubricants and coolants can cause timing belts to deteriorate.

It seems highly unlikley you could change from one to another on a specific engine.

I now know the 4.7 V8 has a timing belt and IS a interference engine. There are some good points to having a belt, it is more flexible and quieter. Since it is more flexible I doubt you could change it to a chain.

Look at it this way, what are the chances you will own the car at 180,000 miles, the time you need to change the belt a second time? I currently own a 92 Honda and I am in that perdicament, but I bet most people don't keep cars as long as I do. :
