Timing Belt Years

Guys,
I have searched all over the forum and there is a lot of conflicting information on the year interval for the V8 timing belt. I've seen anywhere between 6 to 9years. My 04 that I just bought has 65K miles on it but of course is 8 years old.

So, do I need to change the belt now or not?

If I remember right the my 03 was 6 years. At some point they did extend the time but I am not sure what year. When I relaced my timing belt with Toyota parts the timing belt had an updated part number. I am assuming this belt has an extended time range as the newer 4runners had but I do not know if they changed something in the belt or just realized it does not need changed as soon. I think the mileage stayed the same just the age was extended.

You are in the TN area right? Hot...cold, then hot...cold again. That's belt expansion and contraction for 8 yrs. Replace it for insurance if nothing else. We pay homeowners insurance, fire insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance...why not reliablity insurance for peace of mind?

This vehicle is the most expensive purchase other than a home for most of us. Spend $500-$900 now so you dont spend $5k later WHEN it breaks. This is an interference engine and will screw a lot of things up if that belt breaks. Personally, if the belt broke I would get rid of the truck because it's reliabilty would be in question for me.

Didn't you buy a 4Runner because of it's reliablity, track record and capabilities like most of us? Then insure it lives up to your expectations by treating her right from day one!

Sorry... to go on and on. I believe in "preventative maintenance"...not fixing things AFTER they break and complaining about it breaking or the cost.

90K miles or 72 months. I'd change it since 72 months is way over for you. Timing belt/water pump cost is nothing compared to an engine.

Pocket change if you can pull that Mastercraft with it

You guys are right. $600 or $700 is nothing amortized over another 90K miles of engine life. To the shop next week.

V-drive or inboard? I've never riden behind a true wake board boat but our in/out with weight throws a mean roller and using a high pole makes it more interesting.

Have you seen the 2013 nautiques? They have glass bottoms so you can see their previous models.

Its a V-Drive which is an inboard. You should get behind one sometime. The difference between an inboard and a I/O is substantial. Much taller, cleaner, harder wake. Add some weight and it gets really big.

I like the v-drives.. Or I like to call them a reverse I/O as you get all the space the traditional inboard loose by sticking the motor in the middle. I've been behind Supra and Mastercraft ski boats (on a ski) and your right being behind a I/O is no fun.
