timing belt

Well I had my timing belt replaced today, but the mechanic called to tell me my radiator had a crack in the top. If i had a crack in the top of my radiator would I not have noticed fluid leaking?

It is also my understanding that the radiator does not need to come out during this service. Is this true?

You don't have to remove the rad to do the job. Some people do just so that it gives more working room.

A hairline crack in your rad could go un-noticed for a long time unless you're specifically looking for it. Really small cracks will just bubble a bit of fluid out through them, which may evaporate before you could see it.

I second that but you should at least be able to smell the coolant...same thing happened to my radiator leaking along the top tank but was able to smell it...never dripped on the ground cuz it evaporated half way down the front of the radiator

Upon arrival i questioned what happened and he showed me the crack. Very new looking and in my opinion was created by the tech. it was on the far side where the screw with sqare nut connects. As you tightend the screw the crack split open. I will post some pics of the new radiator for explaination
