timing Belts...

Hello has anyone changed their own? How horrible of a job was it?

Also, anyone who paid to have it done, how much did they nail you for it?

Mine is a 2000 with 88,000.

Approx $400 for dealer to do my '99. I had water pump replaced at same time with 109k miles, so bill was $550 or so. It hurt, but it was done right.
BTW, about a month after it was done, the dealer sent me some service coupons including timing belt replacement for about $100 less. Oh well, "timing" is everything!! Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.

Piece of cake... if you work at a dealership, or have a mechnical
know-how..
The only hard part is if you don't have a good impact gun... is the front crank pulley "bolt" and the timing belt tensioner.. other than that it's easy..
BTW your timing belt is good for 100k... then replace the timing belt water pump, front crankseal, and both camshaft seals...

Toyota recommends replacement at 90,000, but I have heard people going further, 100,000+. One thing to note is the 3.4 V6 is a non-interference engine, meaning if; the belt should break, the valves should not be damaged. Of course you will be stuck in the middle of the road when that happens.

do all drive belts and water pump too.

My opinion - If yu dont know what you are doing dont do it. Dont mess with Texas (I mean timing) if you migh throw it off

But if you can do it you'll save some serious labor bucks
