i have a 03 4runner with a 4.0 liter (build date 02/03)
First off, i think i have a couple of different noises going on, the belt noise i think is associated with TSB EG012-03 which i will get into in a different thread. The other noise i think sounds like the timing chain. The noise has only happened during two different situations thus far.
1. During medium heavy to heavy acceleration, in between shifts (while the previous gear is holding).
2. While in park or neutral and revving the engine between 3700 rpm and 4200 rpm. i have not brought the engine above that rpm so i do not know until what rpm it goes until.
I had someone rev the engine while i listened and watched, the sound seemed to be coming from the driver side of the engine and sounded as if a chain was rattling on the guide.
If anyone has any information or knowledge about this please chime in.
Thank You.
