timing

My spouse affectionally called Huricane Debbie, was driving to work when my 1997 sr5 decided to quit. Now this is my baby. She said that she heard kind of a clacking noise from under the hood and it quit running. I have been trying to work on a problem with bank 1 lean on the scanner, but it quit before I could look at it. the motor will start and then go off. The clacking sound has me puzzled, as to what the problem is, ( other than Hurricane Debbie ) Maybe timing???. anone want to venture a good guess??

Could be a lot of things. If it starts then dies, the timing belt is still on but timing could be off. That would indicate a tensioner failure which there reportedly are none. Pull the top cover off and check the timing.

You also need to put in more info. Was their oil and/or coolant on the ground? Did it overheat? Do you have oil and coolant in the engine?

A video would be helpful. Take the skid plate off and look at the block.
