timmin belt and water pump change

I have 2003 toyota 4runner limmed edition how often do you need to change the timing belt and water pump toyota dealer told me after every 120,000 miles on it.

a google search or forum search would probably get you an answer quicker, I have no idea because I have a chain.

I think it's more like 90,000 miles. If you have 120k, then I would suggest taking care of it. [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION] goes over it in this thread

Timing belt is 9yr/90k according to the little maintenance booklet that came with the vehicle brand new. Toyota may have adjusted it to 6yr/90k (what our dealership seems to go by) but I haven't had a chance to see if this is just us or something Toyota did.

120k is on the upper end of where I would feel comfortable with the timing belt, but not a bad number to go by. I personally will be doing mine every 100k so I can keep the big services somewhat lumped together.

Many dealerships have their own schedule that is different from the manufacturer. This is to generate more revenue. Has nothing to do with engineering.

Right, so I'm going to have to double check if this is our dealership's policy or an updated thing by Toyota (timing belts used to be 6yr/60k before the "newer" timing belt engines, so its not out of the realm of possibility.)
