Tint

I recently got tint for the front windows of my 5th Gen, I got Llumar brand at 35%. I am not happy with it. The tint color seems to lean towards a green hue and has a just a bit more reflectivity and the factory tinted rear windows seem more blue/grey. Has anyone else got tint that they think matches the Toyota factory tint well? Do you know what brand it was?

thanks.

I got Wincos tint on the front windows. I'm pleased with the match, especially the color/hue. It's a bit lighter than the back glasses, but I wanted to stay legal. Heat reduction is excellent, which is pretty important during Texas summers.

The film looks a little cloudy when bright sun directly shines through it - so be aware of that.

Thanks. I will look into Wincos. What percent did you get on yours?

To be honest, I've forgotten what the guy told me. I went to the tint shop and asked that the new tint match the back windows. He said they'd have to be lighter to be legal, so I told him to go ahead w/ the lighter tint.

This was a reputable shop, so I didn't sweat the details. I had the paint protection film installed at the same time. I've been pleased with both.

I have Llumar tint on my fronts and it matches really well. I believe it is 35 or 40 %. It might be the color or model they used that is not correct.

Matches as in the color is very close and the reflectivity isn't noticeably different. MN only allows for 50% on front so I had to stay close to legal.

I think this picture thing works.

I do not know what the back windows percentage is, 20% seems familiar. I got 35% on the fronts because I also don't want to go too illegal. Though supposedly any tint on the front is illegal in PA. At any rate, I think this Llumar has a slight green hue. I would like to have the same blue/grey hue as the back windows, just 15% more/less (35%)

maybe I am just being over critical but I know I have seen good Toyota tint jobs out there. and I want that!

Here's mine.

Yours does look a bit green, but it is so hard to tell in a picture. I would bring it up to the place that did the tint, they should want you to be happy with it.

The dealer must have "pre-tinted" my truck, because all of my windows seem to match (or are pretty close). I'll do some digging and see if I can find out the deal on mine. Are there any that come from port all tinted? I'm pretty sure only the back are normal, but I'm amazed at how well they seem to match on this.

I tinted all my windows, even the sunroof, I'll look up the brand later but everything seems to match perfect. The rears are all a little darker to look more like Limo tint. The windshield strip is Limo tint, the sunroof is the same as the rears, the fronts I think are 30 or 35%, here are a few pics...

I haven't seen any tint that will match OEM tint. OEM tint is in the glass itself. Completely different process. I wish the OEMs wouldn't tint any glass. I would rather tint all the glass and have it match. I tinted all my windows 15% except the windsheild. The rears are nice and dark. The fronts are about just right. I think it is Sun Gard tint. HD or performance series. I can't remember. 3M film is supposed to be the best. Lastly, alot rides on the quality of the install. Find an installer who has been at it a while and likes what he/she does. Also, see what kind of vehicles roll through the shop. If all you see are a bunch of ghetto rides then that will likely be about the same level of quality of tint you will be getting. If you see all high end rides and the customers are happy then that shop will likely have better installers and better film.

+1. I asked for no tint windows, and they looked at my like I had 3 heads. It seems 20% is the closest to the rears in transparency, but the color thing is never perfect. It drives me nuts too.

FWIW the factory "tint" is not tint. It is privacy glass. Completely different than the film the tint people put on. I am going to eventually tint over my factory "tint" with 35% to give much better UV reflection and therefore heat reduction. Maybe I'll even get better MPG of I don't need the AC on full blast all the time

^^ Basically the same reason I tinted mine, Was on my way to Anza Borrego Desert one time and was being cooked alive through the glass. Even with the A/C on. It's way better now, some heat still comes through but not like before. I also had the moonroof glass tinted, I can finally have the ceiling cover slid back and not get blinded from the amount of light entering the cabin.

Well I talked to the shop owner that did mine and they only carry Llumar and from their experience it is the best and they provide warranties with their work. They told me if I found another tint brand that matched in color then chances are the tint would fade or get cloudy in a couple years. The shop is reputable, so I guess I can believe them, they have been tinting car windows for 10 years. I understand that no tint will ever match the factory glass. I can live with it. In certain lights it looks perfect, it others, its an eyesore. maybe I am just being overly critical and no one else even notices. I am gettting vent visors next week so that may help tie in the front to the rear. I appreciate the input from everybody.

I see that you are outside of Philly. Did you happen to get your 4runner tinted at SOG? I got mine tinted there back in August, just a couple weeks after I got mine.

Same deal as you, Llumar 35% on the two fronts and in some angles when I look at it, the windows appear to have a green hue to them. It bothered me for a bit, but I'm okay with it I guess.

I also looked online and found that Llumar has 35% in a greenish hue for vehicles like the VW Toureg. I'm not sure if your tint place or my tint place got a version of this 35%. For the Curious Minded individuals Notice the pic with the Red Touareg. Very similar to my fronts.

On a side note: the guys at SOG told me that the 4Runnner's rear glass is about 16-20% or so. Probably if you wanted to match you should have gone with that, but for me it would have been too dark and cause more attention from the cops.

By the way, got the front windshield done with LLumar Air Blue 80. I like it a lot and cuts down on glare at night for me. Inspection next year might be a field day for me. :moping:
