Tinting 1st gen top

SO I am considering getting my 4runner tinted soon because I will be going to Arizona this summer and want to block out as much heat as possible. I have had experience in the past with window tinting but was never that good at doing it and am opting for the shop to do it this time. So this brings me to my main question. Anyone ever have issues with tinting the back windows on the removable top? The entire glass is covered by a dot matrix and in cars I tinted in the past it was a complete bear to tint. I talked to a couple reputable shops and most said it was a hit or miss depending on how thick the matrix material was. Just wanting to see if anyone has had success with tinting the rear windows. I considered covering the entire thing with vinyl but I rather be able to see out of them still.

I have had all my tops tinted, but they only did those windows up to curve where dots started to get thick. The tint guy had to take extra care when doing that part. Never peeled off or bubbled

Eh I decided the security and drive out there might be more comfortable with the hardtop on it. Originally was gonna put a soft top on it but I think the hardtop will be staying on it instead. So I'm wanting to tint it dark now to keep heat out or as much of it as possible anyways.

My 86 is at my buddys tint shop now he said he thought it was gonna be difficult to do those windows but when taking a closer look and said the dots were like inside the glass so the tint went on with no problem

I was worried about this as well, I'm wanting to get my windows tinted soon. I talked to the shop that has done all my other vehicles and they have done a few 1st gens before and said they didn't have a problem with them.

My back window is tinted, and in some conditions it's very hard to see out the back. On my future "To-Do" list is a rear view camera. It will be most helpful when off roading during bad weather, and at night.

Aside from that - it's great having the back tinted. Especially when camping in my 4Runner.

That's all good to hear. I will be getting my 4runner tinted after my next paycheck soon. Im thinking of tinting the rear all 18% to block a lot of the sun out. As far as not being able to see out the back, I can't see out the back as is with my bigass tire in the way. I already installed myself a backup camera so Im not too concern with it.

I have to have the AC on full blast when top is off and half doors are on in MD summers. Of course AZ summers aren't as bad as MD summers, because its a dry heat

Eh Im Asian, I've never been sunburned before and have never used sunscreen. Im really just considering keeping the top on it for security reasons really, even if theres not much keeping someone from getting in my truck, I like to think it makes it more difficult for someone to break into it versus a soft top or topless. I still havent pulled the trigger on the tint yet, just waiting for funds to recoup.

Well, I got my windows tinted last week. The guy who did them told me before hand that if he tinted the back windows it probly would not stick ( even though when I called his boss a few weeks ago, he assured me it would ). So he wound up just using black vinyl on the two back windows. You cant see into, or out of them ( I really don't have a need to ). But it works, and looks good.
