Tinting black JDM tail lights

I just got my black JDM Tails, and not sure if I really like how they look. The flat black inside part of the light really does not match my black 4runner very well.

I am considering tinting the clear cover of the tails to have them match a little better. Not completely blacked out, just a nice smoked look (maybe equivalent to 50% window tint).

Has anyone done this? Pics???

I was thinking maybe I could actually take them to the guy who tinted my windows and get tint film put over them, that way if it looks bad I can just peel it off.

I found some info on doing this HERE

I would not go anywhere near that dark though.

What do you guys think?

I'm a tinter, and to be honest, I think you would waste your money if you were to place film on the outside of the glass. You could try it, and if you don't like it, peel it off easily; but you'll probably end up peeling it sometime because I don't think the film can handle the outside elements for a long time. The film will be susceptible to damage and can look bad; damage as in scratches, gouges, etc.. As for placing film on the inside if you like the look, I'm not sure if the film will be able to handle that type of direct heat. It can take heat, but depending on how much heat the light bulbs are putting out, the film can be damaged and look bad. But I'm not sure, it may be able to handle the heat if it isn't much, but at the same time, it may not..

My recommendation, photoshop the look first and see if you like the look that way. Then look at ways of doing it.
