Tinting the driver and passenger windows to match

I wanted to see about getting window tint put on my 4Runner on the front 2 windows to match the rear windows (back seat). What % tint is on the other windows? 20%? I know its not legal in most places, but had it done on my Tacoma and it looked good and no legal problems. ALSO if anyone has pics of this tint installed I would greatly appreciate it- Thanks!

Stock 4Runner is 20% starting from the B-pillar all the way to the back. It is just dark windows though, which means it has no heat reduction capability. So 20% in the front would match considering the tint you install matches in color to the factory windows...

I have it done on mine. I had it on my Tacoma too. It looked good on the truck but in my opinion the back windows are too light on the 4runner.. I will be tinting the back ones eventuaally. I will post some pics next week after my lift is installed.

I went with 20% on the front of my 4Runner as well, and it matches almost perfectly.

The installer said that Johnson films matched better than Llumar or any of the other brands. It's the cheapest of the tints, but I was after consistency more than anything else and am happy with my decision.

Also, make sure you dont get a reflective or metallic tint for the fronts, or else they wont match.

so here is a question. what if you put 20 up front to match then put another layer on top of all the windows to bring them darker? is that the best way to keep them matching? i want 15 all around but im worried it wont match.

Personally, I'd try removing the rear tint then re-apply a single layer of darker film to ensure consistency.

However, I wouldnt tint over the the tailgate tint since it's a PITA removing tint over multiple defroster lines. Plus, you wont notice mismatched tint as easily on opposing sides of the vehicle.

are you proposing the removal of the factory tint on the glass? Not sure if you know but the factory tint is a coloration that is inside the glass - meaning it's not coming out unless you replace the glass with non-tinted glass.

Most reputable tint shops can do a pretty nice job matching up your tint with the factory tint - it may not be as dark as some people like though. Besides, darker tint is illegal.

I have 20% on the fronts to match the rear. Didn't want to cause any static with the 5-0 by going any darker. :

My fiance has a Lexus RS which has tint on top of the window itself - I only know this since I scratched it inadvertently. I thought the 4Runner would be the same.

Sounds like the only reasonable option is to tint on top of the current tint

As for your 4Runner, you're a brave man. I'd love to tint my front windshield (I've done it for my cars in the past - when I used to work at a tint shop), but that's when I was younger and living in CA. I wouldnt take the risk with it today, nor would it help much living in Seattle.

But it does look nice!

IIRC, All manufacturers SUV tints are colored glass, called Privacy Glass. Your Lexus RX (not RS) was probably done by the previous owner unless of course you bought it new, or it may be done by the dealer as well...:
