So my 07 sport felt a little sluggish and my gas mileage was dropping!:wow2: I looked at my tires and they looked a little fat. I checked the psi in them all 4 were down 10 pounds so i filled them back up and pulled out and felt a change instantly with the handle and feel and test the gas mileage when back up to almost 6-7 more mpg i was shocked and happy

Morale to the story check your tires ull be amazed at the change

Did you have the TPMS disabled?

no like it never even went off its strange i dont know why me and my dad were wondering that. how do i find out if its disabled

...how do i find out if its disabled

I think you already DID. TPMS should annunciate if any tire drops below about 26 PSI if I recall the correct pressure set point. When cold weather begins, I can usually count on my spare tire to cause my TPMS light to come on and it's always at about 26 PSI.

But if yours IS disabled, then please share with us how.

50 psi? Man, I'd get some rockin' MPG's if I could do that! My tire shop started at the recommended 32 psi, but said I can get good wear w/ a few more lbs of pressure. What are other guys running w/ 6 ply tires?
You're right in saying the higher pressure makes a lot of difference, but too high causes more wear in the middle of the tire and shortens the tread life. Are you getting good wear at 50 psi??

50 PIS sounds very high

I try to run about 36 PSI as a compromise. Good, even tire wear, nice handling, not too rough on bumps. I wonder if starting at 50 PSI when cold might, on a day that turned hot, bump you over the sidewall-listed max tire pressure.

I remember that some folks discovered that new vehicles occasionally came from the dealers with very high tire pressures. Something about high pressures used in shipment from the factory, I think.

+1, I do the same.

When I had my volvo S60R w/ 18s I would run 40 psi once in a while... The handling was incredible. But I just can't imagine trying to tackle the roads around here with 50 psi in the tires :wow:

To let you know, its actually 27. something, its one of those weird numbers from them converting from KPA, I can check tomorrow at work when I have the Techstream hooked up to a car and let you know the exact number.

I personally like to run 36psi in our trucks and my own truck for driving around the town. Its firm enough to handle well and give decent gas mileage, but not hard enough to feel like riding on low profiles.

Hey, what year R did you have? I just traded my 07 Sonic in for my 4R.

And after reading this thread I went and checked my tires and every one of them was 6-7 psi too high, so I backed them off to 32.

I can't believe that 50 psi wouldn't wear out the center of your tires extremely fast.

I had an 04, black sapphire/nordkap, GT (unfortunately lol). It was a beautiful car and I wish I could have held onto it long enough to do some mods, but with 130k on the clock, well, it was a ticking time bomb. It needed new struts, brakes, a/c compressor, and the angle gear was starting to make a little noise, so I had to let it go. It was costing me a small fortune as a daily driver.

Traded it in this past August for my 4Runner. Decided to go for something a little bit more rugged and durable lol. Good decision so far!

I think I remember seeing you around Swedespeed... same username right?

Yup, same user name over there as well.

I hear you on the ticking time bomb thing. Mine wasn't, yet, but with two kids in car seats, it was just too small and we were racking up miles on our XC90 instead, which I didn't really want to do either, so the R went.

I didn't have too many issues with mine, a few, but all happened under warranty. They replaced both front axles trying to fix the D to R clunk, wheel bearing, pressure switch for the AWD and that might be it. The radiator sprung a leak right before I traded it, so I put some bars leaks in it and it sealed it up, but I'm sure that will just foul up the heater core.

All in all, I loved the car, an absolute blast to drive, but with a growing family, it was starting to not make sense. It's still for sale here in KC, hopefully whoever buys it shows up on Swedespeed.

Inflating your tires to the max rated pressure on the sidewall is suicide. That's not a real-life operating pressure. At those inflations, your contact patch at highways speeds is minimal.

There's nothing wrong with experimenting and running a few PSI over the placard; perhaps 3-6 PSI; but 15-20 PSI over? And I thought I was crazy when I was younger.

You vehicle will have a sticker probably in the door jam that will tell you what to keep your tires inflated to. This is the how you want inflate for a normal load. If you are towing a trailer you may want to inflate the rear tires a little more. If you have tire require they be inflated to higher pressures they are probably designed for a heavier vehicle that will carry more weight.

I had a Mercedes that said 32lbs for normal driven and 36 lbs if you were going to be maintaining speeds at or above 100mph. I found it strange because the speedometer only went to 85 and the high speed rating was in MPH. Had it been in KPH and a European version I would understand but not a US version.
