Tire and Rim Advice for Noob

So I've had my 2004 4Runner Sport for about a year now and I'm finally ready to do some slight mods (baby steps). I was planning on getting the daystar 2.5/1.5 levelling kit. I also plan on getting new tires and rims.

My question is what size wheels and tires should I get so that the tires don't look small after the lift. I have my eye on either KMC or Fuel wheels (17 inch). I also wanted to get the Goodyear Duratracs. Should I go 265/70 17? Or should I get 16 inch rims and a 285/75 16? Any and all opinions will be appreciated. Thank you.

with sport models, u need 17 inch rims to clear the calipers, i think the 265 70 r17 is a good size.

285's you will need a lot of trimming with 2.5/1.5

* requires removal of mud flaps and probably minor trimming
† requires trimming and may require body mount chop (click here for details on body mount chop), upper control arms, and/or increased backspacing.

Add 5 to the middle number for 16" wheels, subtract 5 for 18" wheels (265/75R16=265/70R17=265/65R18)

The above assumes you're using stock wheels and no wheel spacers. Aftermarket wheels or wheel spacers will increase rubbing, more trimming will need to be done in order to fit the listed size.

OP: I had good luck with the same lift, and 285-75r16 with minor trimming. Well, I would consider it minor compaired some of the work I've had to do. Ayway, I had 16x7 Toyota wheels with 4.5'' backspacing. Combo was great.

I misread. I thought his was an SR5. Read through a lot of threads last night, so I guess I just got mixed up. Either way, the same applies fir 17 '' wheels. 4.5" backspacing with 285s gets you about as close as you can get to the UCA. The thin width keeps you out of the body mount.

You could probably run 275/70r17 and do very minimal trimming, just pushing the front fender liner forward and maybe removing the front mud flaps

Thanks for the replies. One more question. Could I do 1.25 spidertrax wheel spacers without having any rub? I'm going with the Duratracs 265/70 17.

If you do the spacers you will have to do some trimming of the bumper to avoid rubbing in reverse at full lock.
