Anyone else had problems with vibrations at highway speeds when running aftermarket wheels/tires? I have found that if I don't get my front wheels/tires road force balanced absolutely as good as they can get them I will get vibrations in my steering wheel bad and some through the vehicle seat, etc. Running stock size wheels and tires. Tires have 10k miles and are TOYO AT II's. Multiple tire shops have told me this is common on 4runners, Taco's and some Camry's they have noticed. I would love to go to a more aggressive tire at some point but am reluctant thinking keeping them balanced would be a nightmare.

I had the same problem on my 2010 ! They have change the 4 tires for Lt ones ! Not able to balance it on original Toyota wheels !

I've read a lot about people having trouble with AT tires. Maybe I got lucky considering I got my BFGs mounted and balanced at my local Walmart, but they had no issues at all. Could have also been that they were good ol boys and were all talk on 4x4s and wheel tire combos, so they were pretty clearly into that kind of stuff and familiar with it.
Def sounds like road force is the way to go if you can't get it balanced normally.

I had no issues with my stock AT tires, they were excellent.
Changed to a mud tire recently and now i'm having an issue getting the front driver wheel/tire balanced. I'm running Nitto Trail Grappler MT's 285/70/17 on stock 17" trdpro wheels. Brought it back to the same tire specialist three times, each time i went back the balance was off. He was like wtf.
Third time was not a charm and still getting some shimmy from the steering wheel between 50mph-60mph, so now im thinking either pay again and go to a new shop or move the front tire/wheel to the rear.

On my stock tires I had one that was within allowable, but had to be improved before vibration would go away. Based on the reports here, I would say that this vehicle is somewhat susceptible to tire balance vibration issues
A little more info could help. Do you what equipment they're using to balance? Is it a road force balance? Is it one specific wheel or tire? Do you know what kind of numbers they're getting on the balance? They should be able to give you before and after numbers just like an alignment so-to-speak. Are they balancing fine and then quickly going out of balance?

I'm dealing with this now. 2WD '15 SR5P with stock wheels but Bridgestone Dueler Alenza Plus tires that were new when we had them swapped from our 2010 4R when it was traded. Dealer did that work. Firestone where we purchase all our tires did a balance. Wife complains - and I witness - wheel shake from 60-64mph.

To tag onto [MENTION=135484]renau001[/MENTION].....are the wheels hubcentric? Does the balance machine they are using have a mandrel for your wheels or are they using a cone on the shaft?
* Are the tires within manufactures specs? If they are out of spec, they require replacing.

Test drove it, and never noticed it. Bought it, drove it home and it shook on the highway in the 50-60mph range. Took it back like 4 or 5 times. They balanced and balanced and balanced and never got it right. Eventually just put two tires on the front to shut me up. It doesn't shake nearly as much anymore, but if I try I can still find it. Think I just had 4 bad (cheap..."Sailsun") tires on it.

The 60-64mph wheel shimmy is commonly reported and it's the same speed where mine was at brand new. Dealer rebalanced on a road force machine under warranty and eliminated. There was one wheel/tire that the high/low force difference was 20lbs (which was allowable but not ideal). They were able to get it down to 14 lbs and the steering wheel shimmy is completely gone with hands off the wheel. Not saying that'll work for everybody or that mine won't come back, but I think it's worth noting that if you don't get a set of tires that will balance reasonably well you'll probably have a wobble. Make them give you numbers. If they're using a road force balance, 10lbs or less would be ideal. For me at least it looks like less than 15 lbs on all 4 eliminated the vibration.

Toyota wheels are hubcentric.
99.99% of the balance machines are lugcentric.
I had nothing but nightmares with my 2002 4runner, steering wheel ALWAYS shook at highway speeds. When I bought my 2011, it was smooth as glass. I added TRD wheels and BFG KO2s mounted and "balanced" at costco on a lugcentric machine. WOBBLE WOBBLE WOBBLE. I took it to the dealer and paid $70 for the roadforce balance, and the wobble is barely there. Almost perfect.
I tried to find a hubcentric machine in AZ and they are all gone. Best you can do is the roadforce balance if you can't find the hubcentric.

99% of wheel balancing machines use a cone system which is hubcentric and quick to use.... The issue with many aftermarket wheels is that they are actually both hub and lug centric (or don't have a center bore that matches the vehicle exactly). Sometimes a universal adapter is required to mimic mounting on the vehicle.
From my experience, most balancing issues are tire related.

Every time I've had my tires balanced they've used the lug adapter and never a cone.
